I have noticed that when running BOINC the speed of my CPU fan goes up and down in cycles of about 10 seconds (with 50% max CPU load allowed), which ends up being bothersome.
Is there any way to avoid or minimize this behavior? |

Sounds like it is the 50% loading allowed as the CPU runs, stops, runs, stops.......................let it rip for 100%, that will stop the fan slowing down!

lgcota, an option that may be more appropriate than Scribe's, is to use a piece of software that, like myself, many are using - TThrottle (TThrottle).
----------------------------------------With this, you can set a temperature in which you're happy (particularly if you're running BOINC on a laptop - as they don't tend to have as good a cooling system as desktops), and then it'll throttle back BOINC to keep a constant temperature (and hence, a more constant fan speed). This option is far more advanced than BOINC's own attempt at regulating the temperature. Obviously, if temperature isn't an issue, then Scribe's option of simply "letting it rip" at 100% flat out, would also smooth the fan operation out. ![]() |
