Re: Ubuntu

Tomahawk4196,
Your car analogy is very apt and sadly accurate.
In exactly the same way that an amateur mechanic CAN tinker and tune a model T he is unable to tinker with a modern blackbox automobile. I have learnt a great deal more in four years with linux than I ever did in twenty with windows.
Having said that my attitude to cars is: get in,turn key, travel A to B, Done.
Most people have the same attitude to computers, what sane person would'nt? wink

twilyth,
Again you're spot on, linux is a lost cause in the consumer space, Android will I am sure become ubiquitous.

Nap,
I got your latest email, what can I say? Ubuntu sucks! sad

I consider myself a neophyte on Linux, but I have found it fairly easy to get it to run BOINC without too much problem, except for the continuing problematic wireless connectivity issue - currently working (fingers crossed.)
Edit May 11, 2014: Changed a DHCP address on my range extender to a static address and problem went away.
Cheers

Re: Ubuntu

Tried Linux but half the programmes I wanted didn't work and I haven't got the time to look for an answer. The reason we like Windows is precisely so we don't have to type command lines in and I think this is why Ubuntu has a software centre or otherwise they wouldn't have included it right? *cough*

Re: Ubuntu

Well Linux Ubuntu is now at version 14.
It is nice, and you can install Boinc 7.2.42 with it.
Have you all tried it?
