The details of the build can be seen in this thread.
----------------------------------------The hardware is built, howeve, when installing the OS - Ubuntu Server - part way through the prtscr & scroll lock lights on the keyboard come on and nothing can be done. The only way to proceed is to restart/reset The Bios recognised the all 4 CPU's - all memory correctly. I've reset the bios to defaults and still the same! Any ideas as to what may be causung this would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance

Board requires ECC-Registered DIMMS Thanks Rammie, but the bios recognises the 32 Gig of memory, which is
Memory Type (R/U): Unbuffered The manual states Thirty-two (32) single/dual/tri/quad channel DIMM slots supporting up to 256 GB of ECC/Non-ECC UDIMM or up to 1 TB of ECC RDIMM DDR3-1600/1333/1066 Mhz SDRAM Other suggestions/comments welcome

What version of ubuntu are you using? 64 or 32 bit? Have you applied any bios updates? Is there any other hardware installed e.g. graphics card, etc? Have you tried another distro such as SUSE or Red Hat?
It sounds like a compatibility issue, have you tried starting with enhanced debugging to get a better idea where it's failing? |

Ubuntu 64, no bios update as SuperMicro says the mb should work with any bios above V3. My MB id V3.0b I'm thinking it may be bios needs updating... No other versions of linux attempted, it's currently installing Win7Pro with 2 CPU's installed by way of a test. If successful, I'll flash the bios under Win7, then once confirmed as stable, will install other 2 CPU's then rety Ubuntu server... Thanks for the comments

I know very little about AMD but In bios, try turning off C-States or the equivalent power saving features.
----------------------------------------On this c602 chipset I couldn't load os without doing so and linux required more turned off than win 7 ![]() |

You can also always download an evaluation version of Windows Server from Technet. This would allow you to test all four sockets, and eliminate whether it is a software or hardware/settings issue.

Try to get into the bios. Think its the delete key. Had similar issue om my SM board when I built my dually. MM over at xtreme systems had one. Maybe shot him a pm for ideas. Also, remove all memory and try with one in each bank.

well, after a long night, I have run Win7Pro for a while and managed to get Ubuntu Server 12.... LTS installed with 2 processors.
----------------------------------------It appears the issue with Ubuntu was the SAS drive. As soon as I changed it for a SATA drive it installed no problem. Having said that it does only have 2 processors at the moment. Win7Pro is running on the SAS drive, but Ubuntu will not! Very strange! The next step is to allow the test wu's to complete under the Windows installation. Then install the other 2 processors and see if Ubuntu server will boot with all processors installed... Then I have to figure out how to use the command line control of Ubuntu Server! Me thing that's a whole new challenge!
