Saw the same problem a few hours ago when it first started. Trick is being able to tell if the problem is with my machines or WCG's servers. Normally, if I see the same thing on both of my crunchers, it's usually on the WCG server end. If it's just on one machine, normal worst case scenario is the usual solution with M$ problems - reboot. As for WCG server problems, IBM normally runs software on their servers that notifies the admins when a wide variety of error conditions occur. In the old days, the admins had a pager that went off. Nowadays, I'm sure they just get a text message to their smartphone. Over the years, I've seen that the admins are usually working on a problem within 2-3 hours. You have to allow some bit of time for the monitoring software to note that there is a problem (some problems get noticed faster that others), then the notice goes out to the admin. They have to get online (which can take a bit if it's the weekend/evening and they're not by their laptop), check things out, confirm the problem and, in the midst of that, try to remember to post something here in the forums so we know they are working on the problem.
----------------------------------------As a cruncher, the real trick is, as I said, knowing if the problem is on my machine(s) or WCG's servers. Invariably, folks will post about it here in the forums and, for me, that's the surest sign the problem is not on my end. It usually means waiting for an hour or two after the problem starts and then seeing at least a couple of different threads about it here in the forums. Not all of us are techie wizards so that doesn't bother me. There's been at least one or two instances over the years that the multiple threads and "me too"s have helped id the magnitude of a problem when that has mattered. Mind you I'm not complaining or anything, just adding a dash of "perspective". I've learned plenty from my fellow crunchers here in the forums over the years. It's only fair that I try to return the favor.BTW, looks like they fixed the problem while I typed this. ![]() |
