Hi!
I was just wondering. Which is most beneficial to the projects and/or WCG infrastructure: Very frequent uploading/downloading - ie small batches, or less frequent communication in larger bacthes - say every 3 or 4 days? Does the science suffer with the longer return times, or do we stress your infrastructure by communication say every 2-3 hours? /olebole |

i don't know the answer to that-
----------------------------------------First, i run a .1 day cache on everything and it's exclusive WCG (and wuprop@home). been bit a couple of times for wcg but when it happens I head off to poem or something and make cores do something:) it's so rare i don't really worry about it. i am lucky enough to have a fair number of cores right now and they stay up most of the time so. i communicate often and get a lot of short term tasks. i don't pay a ton of attention (my work gets in the way), but i'm guessing near 40% of what i do are running high priority (after a quick look at what is happening at the moment) my 24 cores are running from 11 to 16 hipri tasks. my smaller boxes don't get hipri's near as often- they just run. i'd say if you keep a happy balance- don't run out of tasks to keep the work going, and don't report or check in unless you have something to report. i think the best thing is to not keep more than a day of cache and let the servers sort it out.but that's just me:) ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by pramo at Dec 17, 2013 1:44:22 AM] |
