WCG would like for a project to run ~ 2-3 years is my take, but considers 1 year about the minimum [it's a big investment to start one up... lead time 9-12 months, and even longer [we can see ;]. In practice, if a science produces results [science papers, yes peer reviewed papers and publications and scientific community open accessible databases from the processed output, open ended is fine too. FA@H and HPF2 are examples, latter pulled plug due hmmm, politics in DC.
The reality is, WCG is now going so fast on just 2 full out projects [250 years each daily], new ones have to bring a lot of science crunching to not finish in a blink.... e.g. CFSW did 4200 years... that's finished in 20-25 days now. But, if you have 'No limit work supply" which goes for FA@H and MCM, the techs could opt for low priority distribution as was done for DSFL and SN2S, to make the stock last longer. And policies are subject to change without notice... we're here to help get the projects done ASAP, well not too ASAP ;>). |

Hello liutjx,
FightAIDS@Home is open-ended. As long as there is no cure for AIDS and there are possible drugs to test, keep on searching. Clean Energy is more limited, but the precise limits have not been set. Mapping Cancer Markers is subject to change as different markers are found. None of these projects have a fixed size. WCG tries to evaluate how useful it would be to add additional work to a project.
