Re: question

I have found that when I use CTRL-ALT-DEL and look under processes that I am running 4 programs--not the one I wanted to run, but ....

This suggests that all your 4 cores are doing fine. They are just busy working on other projects than WCG. You can control those from the projects tab. Or set their resource shares at the corresponding project sites.

Re: question

Ctrl+Alt+Del? That's the shortcut-key command since years, if not a decade+ to bring up the sign-in/out screen of WNT/W2K and higher. Just tried it, long long abandoned by self, and indeed on W7 it brings up a screen what you want to do... a shopping list of things to do, to include, wow, an item to open task manager. Thk you.

Proper fast-lane opening of Task-Manager without causing an unwanted action is Ctrl+Shft+Esc [on me Italian keyboard actually Righthand Ctrl+Any Shft+Esc.

Now on the processes, except for AutoDock FAAH and MCM the sciences active sciences consist of a stager [controller], not using CPU time and a worker, using CPU time. So if you have 2 FAHV running you see 4 wcgrid processes. For CEP2 you see even 6, but only 1 per 3 using time.

FYI: As the footnote says on the device profiles, the "On multiprocessors, at most use: 4" will only work for the specific 6.2.28 clients. It's disabled in later clients. Only the % of processors work in higher client versions... 6.4 and on. The later clients in fact have only a % processors option in the local prefs, which has often led to conflict and confusion, because some of the -around 6.2.28- clients will only take the lesser of the two values, meaning if you enter 4 processors and set 50%, you only get to run 2 jobs on a quad. Conversely, if you set 100% of processors and 2 processors, you still only get 2 jobs running on a quad. Still on 6.2... yes it works but is seriously outdated.
