Hi - I installed BOINC Manager on over 20 identical machines yesterday, but after waiting for over 24 hours only 8 of 20 machines are actually working. I also only have 8 registered in my device manager on my profile. All other machines are displaying "No Work Available to Process" non-stop.
----------------------------------------Tried restarting a few of them, but so far no luck. Is this normal behaviour? Running BOINC client version 6.10.58 on Mac osx 10.6.8. Thanks in advance for any replies. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 3, 2013 7:36:46 PM] |

Hi,
You added WCG as a project to all the clients through the BOINC Manager? Sometimes it takes a little before things start moving, but 24 hours is definitely too long. When WCG is attached to the client, visit the tools > preferences > network tab and set the Connect Every xxx to 1.00 days and OK/Save. Also set the Activity menu option to Run Always. [Defaults are tuned to lower load and not do anything if the 'system' load is > 25%. The Run Always overrides those settings.] |

Hi Rob.
I added WCG as projects on all clients through the Manager, yes. I did everything you wrote, but so far no luck. (I found the "the connect every xxx" under advanced > preferences > network tab, but I think I got it right nonetheless.) However, while I was prodding around in the interface I discovered you can reset projects. That seems to have solved the problem. Thank you for your help. |

OK great. Regrettably the BOINC Manager interface has had some reshuffles over the years. Tools [Computing] Preferences is the v7 place, and Advanced > Preferences the v6. Yes, Reset is another one that nulls all counters, obliterates all project data / apps / sticky files and downloads everything again. Beyond me why this is needed on newly installed clients. [Not to be done when work is in progress :D]
I've marked the title of this reply post with [RESOLVED]. Please do same with the opening post [Edit Post]. Have a great crunch [20 Macs is serious stuff] |
