When we encounter the following problems:

Thanks for posting this. I've made this error line an item on the Start Here FAQ index, 4-I, with a general advisory to verify nothing in the security software is blocking the client/science apps, where boinc.exe launching science apps is by most regarded as suspicious.
Normally one would expect a pop-up on first time launch, but if messages are suppressed/autoblock or you're not there first time a science app is launched it becomes problematic. Generally we recommend to exempt C:\ProgramData\BOINC and subs-dirs from scanning. BOINC runs in a sandboxed limit rights environment, plus the client checks crc/md5 values and signatures of programs to make sure that nothing malignent ends up in the project folders and slots [which are cleaned out each time when a task ends]. |
