I'm having an issue in uploading 2 completed WU's, and even after a reboot of my machine (which, needless to say, restarted BOINC) and a reset of my router, they still refuse to upload.
----------------------------------------Firstly, a brief summary of my situation. Last week, I was away from the Internet, so I downloaded enough WU's to keep my machine happy. Last Thursday, I actually managed to get a connection - from which, I resumed my Network activity so as to send all the completed WU's back. 33 uploaded successfully, and 2 failed - with the following errors; 28-Nov-2013 14:06:51 [World Community Grid] Started upload of MCM1_0000201_7727_1_0 28-Nov-2013 14:06:53 [World Community Grid] [error] Error reported by file upload server: EOF on socket read : asked for 208, got 130 28-Nov-2013 14:06:53 [World Community Grid] Temporarily failed upload of MCM1_0000201_7727_1_0: transient upload error 28-Nov-2013 14:10:46 [World Community Grid] Started upload of MCM1_0000214_4772_1_0 28-Nov-2013 14:10:48 [World Community Grid] [error] Error reported by file upload server: EOF on socket read : asked for 208, got 130 28-Nov-2013 14:10:48 [World Community Grid] Temporarily failed upload of MCM1_0000214_4772_1_0: transient upload error 28-Nov-2013 14:10:48 [World Community Grid] Backing off 1 min 0 sec on upload of MCM1_0000214_4772_1_0 After retrying them a few times, I had to disconnect from the Internet, only reconnecting again this afternoon - again, being able to upload all the newly completed WU's (of which, there were 30), yet these 2 were still failing (this time, with an "HTTP error"). After leaving BOINC to try and resolve the issue until later on in the evening (they continued to fail, back-off and fail again), I decided to try another reboot of my set-up (my machine had processed another 4 WU's - so before they were sent back, I 'suspended the network connection', so as have them to send back at the same time as these other 'stuck' two. Thing is, both these 'stuck' uploads are due to be returned today (the 2nd of Dec - one at 06:18 UTC and the other at 16:32). Is there something else I can try to get them returned? (there's a combined total of 30 Hrs CPU time against these WU's - so, if at all possible, it'd be good not to lose them...). ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by gb009761 at Dec 5, 2013 4:17:44 AM] |

Sad to say, but it looks like the files may be corrupted. You have already tried everything I can think of.

I had a somewhat similar problem about a year ago with 2 CEP WUs. IIRC the problem was due to having a partial file on the upload filesystem due to a previous failed attempt. The guys/gals at Harvard reset something on the upload server and the next attempt was successful. Don't know if that is the case with this set of WUs or not. Just a thought.

Okay, thanks Doneske for giving me a bit of hope. I'll certainly leave my BOINC session trying to send these two files back home, and if they make it in time, all well and good. If not, then I'll just have to chalk it down to experience...

Well, both my uploads are still trying (42 & 44 attempts, respectively), which is a shame - as both these WU's ran through without being interrupted, and therefore they've got a reasonable chance of being classed as Valid.
----------------------------------------Oh well, I'll give them a little longer - as it's not preventing my machine from crunching... ![]() |

Hi Uplinger,
----------------------------------------As can be seen from below, it still didn't make any difference - although that's probably now due to the two WU's in question, being far too late (and thus, unusable). Thus, as I don't have an issue with any other WU's, I'll just kill these two. 05/12/2013 04:06:41 World Community Grid update requested by user 05/12/2013 04:06:42 World Community Grid Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. 05/12/2013 04:06:42 World Community Grid Reporting 3 completed tasks, not requesting new tasks 05/12/2013 04:06:46 World Community Grid Scheduler request completed 05/12/2013 04:06:46 World Community Grid Message from server: Result MCM1_0000201_7727_1 is no longer usable 05/12/2013 04:06:46 World Community Grid Message from server: Result MCM1_0000214_4772_1 is no longer usable 05/12/2013 04:08:23 World Community Grid Started upload of MCM1_0000201_7727_1_0 05/12/2013 04:08:23 World Community Grid Started upload of MCM1_0000214_4772_1_0 05/12/2013 04:09:52 Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 05/12/2013 04:09:52 World Community Grid Temporarily failed upload of MCM1_0000214_4772_1_0: HTTP error 05/12/2013 04:09:52 World Community Grid Backing off 1 hr 39 min 16 sec on upload of MCM1_0000214_4772_1_0 05/12/2013 04:09:53 World Community Grid Temporarily failed upload of MCM1_0000201_7727_1_0: HTTP error 05/12/2013 04:09:53 World Community Grid Backing off 3 hr 52 min 16 sec on upload of MCM1_0000201_7727_1_0 05/12/2013 04:09:54 Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down. ![]() |

Yes, that is the risk and it's indeed printed:
