Hoping to get some help with a problem I've seen posted in older threads, but I'm not sure mine is the exactly the same case. I have an AMD-8150 with 8GB RAM running Win7-64 that's had 5 download errors with CEP2 WU's. I can't be certain, but I don't think I've run CEP2 before on this host, so I have no history to compare it to. Errors in the BOINC manager are similar to:
7011 World Community Grid 11/27/2013 12:01:49 PM [error] File wcgrid_cep2_qchem_6.40_windows_intelx86 has wrong size: expected 63270912, got 2765615 7012 World Community Grid 11/27/2013 12:01:49 PM [error] Checksum or signature error for wcgrid_cep2_qchem_6.40_windows_intelx86 Stderr output is similar to: <core_client_version>7.2.28</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> app_version download error: couldn't get input files: <file_xfer_error> <file_name>wcgrid_cep2_qchem_6.40_windows_intelx86</file_name> <error_code>-200</error_code> </file_xfer_error> </message> ]]> On this WU, a wingman had the same error. My local preferences are set to allow BOINC 100GB of HDD space and use 95% of the 8GB RAM. With the mix of projects I'm running now, I haven't seen the host use more than 4GB RAM, so I don't think I'm RAM limited. I did notice that my device preferences at WCG for disk and memory usage were more limiting, but don't local preferences set in the BOINC manager override those? Thanks for any feedback. Cheers, MarkR |

Are you using a wireless connection? It could be a bad signal or outdated drivers causing data corruption.

Are you using a wireless connection? It could be a bad signal or outdated drivers causing data corruption. No. This host is wired and works off of a switch with another host on it. No similar errors on my other hosts with WCG or other projects. Curiously, though, since my initial post, this host has successfully downloaded the CEP2 executable and 2 WU's. I too am getting identical errors to ritterm. This machine was running other BOINC projects and I just added WCG to it. PC is wired to a LAN.

This implies that the file is 2765615 bytes in size and either the server version is corrupted or the checksum is wrong. in the end I aborted the unit and it's pulled down "Mapping Cancer Markers" to crunch instead, but I don't want my task list to fill with failed attempts to get this project. |

Had same yesterday, but eventually got a good copy... see https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=442778
Something wonky in the cloud, where many of the permanent, non volatile application pieces reside. |

I've flushed the caches on the cloud. Let me know if this clears the issue.

IIRC, there was a way of forcing to fetch the applications from the source [out of the cloud], by entering the direct IP somewhere. [Info is out there on the forums somewhere... a post by knreed

The cache flush that knreed performed may have done the trick. As of this morning I have a CEP work unit crunching away.
Good job! |

It 'will' have done the trick ;>). [I had just the luck some days ago during this situation that my client went at some point back to the source].
Please will the starter of this topic kindly mark this thread with [RESOLVED] in Opening Post Title. (suppose this will not be 'resolved' for techs...something not going away... recurring. Maybe knreed can do a script to flush the cloud cache on a periodic basis [or run a checksum integrity check on the cloud copies]. It's the new installs / members that are the ones being hit by this, when 'brown' clouds develop). Those not writing in could be voting with feet and then get a mail in 3 weeks that their installed host has not returned any work. I so detest fall-out ... don't we all :| ) Crunch On. |

Rarely does me memory fail me ;P... Here's the workaround post to the problem from 2011 at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=337211 with emphasis that if you have the application/image files, to remove the direct IP again. These are one-time-only downloads only fetched on new installs or when doing a reset / detach / add WCG project cycle in client.
(Who says the advanced search function does not work on our forums, does not know how to use boolean AND / OR controls ;o). |
