Coleslaw, The host is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and the guest is Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit. Sorry for the very late response CaptainJack, the gains for Linux are typically the VINA projects running 64bit Linux even in a virtual machine. Give that a shot and see what your results look like. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Sold as a server product the Intel Atom C2750 looks interesting at 20 watts:
http://ark.intel.com/m/products/77987 This review showed it drawing 30-35 watts at the wall: http://www.servethehome.com/Server-detail/asr...-storage-platform-review/ As far as I can tell it does not support AVX instructions. Here is another review: http://www.servethehome.com/Server-detail/int...ey-benchmarks-fast-power/ There is also a C2730 at 1.7 GHz using 12 watts. |

enels, would that out perform two ODROID-XU's? I believe the ODROID-XU only uses something like 5 watts...but I'm not up to date on them. You could get an ODROID-XU for the same cost as the processor alone on that Atom C2750 I would guess...so the Atom still has the cost of the rest of the system. So, over all, you could probably get two or more ODROID-XU's and then save more money on power consumption. But that is assuming a lot since I don't have any real world numbers on it. It would be interesting to know.

I don't know enough to compare them Coleslaw. I found a mini-itx barebone for $383 US but not in stock. It would probably only be of interest to somebody who likes all the storage and ethernet ports. A 4th generation i3 with speedstep could probably be underclocked/undervolted to 35 watts and perform similarly. The lack of AVX support is worrying, but afaik no WCG projects use AVX instructions.

enels...it sounds like my wishes are coming true. Latest official BOINC release for Android supposedly supports x86. Now I need to start setting up some test VM's.

I just installed 4.2 x86 in a virtual machine to play with. BOINC installed as expected and attached to BAM! too. Now I just have to see if anyone supports it yet or if I have to go to all of the projects asking/begging for an app....

Someone at SETI is testing one now. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=73973
----------------------------------------So, the question is, will WCG have any applications available for Android x86 and possibly the future x64? https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,36235 Supposedly Intel has already made a Kernel version to help get Android 64bit capable. Google is mum on the topic, but there are multiple articles discussing the topic. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Feb 2, 2014 5:28:19 AM] |

If WCG can get work on these new chips, Would seriously consider building an 8 core Opteron based on the A1100. Cheaper and uses less electricity. Won't be long before we see 2P boards for these (I hope).
