One of my clients was over ambitious in grabbing tasks, and I can plainly see that some are not going to be done by the deadline. I have lots of computing power available to me. Is there a way I can switch the tasks over to another node (or a new node) so that I complete the tasks on time and get credit for them? If need be, I can physically copy the entire data from one computer to a different, faster computer.

Hello ece377,
BOINC was designed to keep track of each work unit. Trying to fool it is possible but is simply more trouble than it is worth. The BOINC developers have built in various values that indicate that they assume the buffer will normally not exceed 3 days (a long weekend). That is probably a hint on their part. Lawrence |

I do not want to deceive the client. I think that I set the client to try to communicate only once every five days and get a queue of five days worth of work. The client grabbed considerably more than five days worth of work, assuming the estimates are accurate. I certainly do not want to make a habit of this, but I would like to get the assigned work done. I want accurate workload estimates to avoid this in the future, but I again would like to finish the assigned work.

Re: Transferring Tasks to Other Nodes take a look at this thread http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ead,35016_offset,0#418811 HTH That may prove very useful! Thank you! |

Hello ece377, welcome on the board
----------------------------------------![]() Do not hesitate to cancel all tasks you think will not finish on time - nothing bad will happen, you will just speed-up the whole process, since WCG will send them to other shrubbers (aka crunchers) immediately after. IMO it is much better (and much more correct to your wingmen) than to wait until the deadline ![]() You will receive new WU's when you will run out of work without any restriction nor penal). But I agree with recommendation to lower your cache. All the best and NI! ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Shrubbing@Home since January 5 2006 ![]() |
