I have been running Bionic for over 8 years. Recently I added an SSD to one of the systems running Bionic and I would like to have the disk space used, allocated on another hard drive on the system. SSD is smaller and to reduce writing to the SSD (just in case). How can I do this without restarting??
Also I was unable to log into Bionic Message Boards (to get this info) using my normal Biobic e-mail and password. Do I have to register again for the message boards???? |

Gerry, to change the data drive within BOINC, you will need to clear down all wu's uninstall BOINC and reinstall. During installation choose Advanced install where there is an option to define a drive other than the C drive. Also I was unable to log into Bionic Message Boards (to get this info) using my normal Biobic e-mail and password. There's a Start-Here FAQ for this [no, really, not kidding, it's true], for old clients. The new, certainly the commonly used WCG version 6.10.58 and 7 requires a simple stopping [after checking event/message log where the data currently is], then copy the data dir and it's subs to the new desired location, then uninstall BOINC [required]. Upon newly installing point the installer data path [3rd screen, advanced options] to the new location where the data was copied to. All lossless, except of course the time the client was interrupted.
Oh, and make sure the BOINC data remains to go to it's own private sub-dir structure, or you'll have nasty surprises... -never- put it in root, so e.g. not E:\, but E:\BOINCData\ |
