hmmm, jhindo did post also: 1) That a the next [cancer] project would be launched early fall. 2) A week or more ago, that there was a serious technical issue [code development], which held [cancer] up. Like to reading it all, just in case. [There is this very easy 'search posts on authors' function, so not to miss any that do carry cloud.]. knreed also posted 1 or 2 days ago that the wrong 'error' indicator [for server/user aborts] was going to be fixed with the next [unspecified] end project launch, which of course requires a website update edit: [add another info snippet that work is ongoing.] Fair comment. However both the posts referred to were made as replies within forum threads. Forum users are only a small, though vociferous, minority of the WCG community which is why my original post refered to timely and informative updates, disseminated in the broadest possible way to the community Whilst I can, and do, use the search function to keep abreast of tech and admin posts I suspect many forum users do not. If a WCG blog is not forthcoming then ideally all posts by WCG techs and admins should be available to view in one place as well as the thread to which they relate. Alternatively maybe the Watch function in the forum could be modified to watch posts by named members. |

Sorry to have been misunderstood. It's probably due to my poor english.... Your English seems fine to me1) I keep working "voluntarily" for "helping" projects", WCG and/or others. . That's great2) I've been doing this for 6 years and I intend to continue. Also great, I invite you to continue3) WCG has been very active in the past, with about ten projectsd running, so we had something you probably heard about : a choice. See, this is where we start to have problems. Maybe this is where the miscommunication starts. Yes, in the past WCG did have more of a variety of projects to pick from, but the current amount of projects (2 or 3 depending on how you look at it) is not WCG fault. It's due to circumstances out of WCG's control (it has been vastly explained in the forums). 4) nowadays, only 2 projects running and annoucements for others in "some time"... This mean ALL the crunchers (628247 this morning) work on these two projects and they might well be finished quickly... And what happens then ? Well, considering that FAAH has a little less than 5 years to go, I don't think WCG will go dry any time soon.5) Anyway, I keep on chrunching these projects, but with only half of my computers time. That's great, thanks for keeping on participating6) I prefer, and it's my right, really active projects to half-sleeping ones as looks WCG nowadays. Yes, you have the right to participate in any project you prefer. Not sure why you call WCG projects "half-sleeping"... seems to me that FAAH and CEP2 are running fine. Conclusion : I'm not the bad guy, bad-tempered and ready to quit. But I felt that this forum was relatively democratic and I thought it was allowed to say that WCG may eventually have some defects. But maybe i'm wrong... Yes, you can point out the defects that the WCG has, but it's the way you present your statements that will determine what kind of response you get. It's not the same to say "If things don't go the way I like them, I will go crunch some place else" vs "I'm worried that WCG crunchers will lose interest due to the lack of variety of projects". I think we're basically on the same page. We just have to be careful how we express our frustrations and disagreements so they can be seen as contributions and not as non-constructive criticism. I want to thank you for your 6 years of contribution to WCG and hope you continue. CJSL Crunching for a better future... Thanks all for constant and useful feedback.
Regarding the comments about us providing updates in the forums only, instead of using other methods which are more accessible to the wider community.. It's true, that our most frequent posts and conversations happen in the forums or on social media. Historically, we've been reluctant to use more traditional methods (such as sending member emails or posting News & Updates articles) for interim updates and only use those when we have significant news to share. This is partly because we don't want to bombard people with information, while recognizing that more interested members would come to the forums for answers if they don't feel like they're getting the information they need. We are implementing functionality to allow members to have more control over what type of news they want to receive, and how they want to receive it. Such functionality will allow us to be more relaxed about posting news, since it'll give you the option of not hearing about it if you don't want to. We don't yet have a release date for this functionality but it's reasonably far along in development. I won't pretend that we'll get this right the first time, this is purely acknowledgement that we understand these concerns and we're taking first steps to try and address them. As for having so few active projects, I'd like to remind our members that while we did have 12 active projects at one point, that was an exception and it's rare for us to have more than 4-5 active projects. While it was nice for our volunteers to have so much choice, supporting so many projects at the same time didn't allow us to spend as much time onboarding new ones, for example. And speaking of onboarding new projects, we have yet to iron out all testing issues we've come across for our next (cancer) project. We're working aggressively with the researchers to get those last issues out of the way so that we can go into beta testing soon (we hope!). |

Credit where credit is due - jhindo's post is both timely and informative.
----------------------------------------![]() With specific regard to functionality to allow members to have more control over what type of news they want to receive, and how they want to receive it this is welcome news. Personally I am happy that the issue is being addressed and would not expect [WCG to] get this right the first time. I would hope that come thought is given to the issue of forum software raised in twilyth's post here |
