Well, apparently something is happening: 10/5/2013 6:57:33 AM | World Community Grid | Scheduler request failed: Unrecognized or bad HTTP Content or Transfer-Encoding 10/5/2013 6:57:46 AM | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 10/5/2013 6:57:48 AM | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down. Are you still getting this error? Please try to manually update the project in your client. You may have attempted to access it during the feeder boot up. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Not only there are only 2 projects left running, not only one of them is fraggng the HD unreasonnably (CEP2), but now we just cannot upload or dowload work and there is no reaction from a community advisor or a tech, no news, no explanation. I guess all WCG is sleeping.... No news from SN2S neither from the promised "new projects"... Happyly I subscribed recently to another project (climtaprediction.net) which seems to run normally, gives work and informations... Sorry to be a little upset, but this is my sixth year on WCG and I've never seen such a silly situation : only a very few projects (in the past there had been up to ten running in the same time) and then you work in emptyness... I still agree to give my computer time, but thus, I don't like to waste it. If it goes on that way, I'll definitely switch on other networks It's sad to see these kind of posts, where the cruncher threatens to pick up his marbles and go home. Apparently the concept of "volunteer" and "help" are lost on some people. Oh well, life goes on and most of us here are to help find treatments and cures for people that are affected by these terrible diseases. CJSL Crunching for a better world... |

[ It's sad to see these kind of posts, where the cruncher threatens to pick up his marbles and go home. Apparently the concept of "volunteer" and "help" are lost on some people. Oh well, life goes on and most of us here are to help find treatments and cures for people that are affected by these terrible diseases. CJSL Crunching for a better world... I totally agree cjslman and as I posted earlier WCG is very reliable, outages are few and far between, and rarely extend more than a few hours. Nevertheless a lot of the negative comments would be avoided if WCG communicated more effectively with the volunteers. jhindo posted May 9, 2013: But we are starting to think about our communication strategy overall: what to notify members of and how to communicate that information. There's been little evidence of any improvement since that post. All too often information is only forthcoming in response to a negative forum post rather than being announced to the wider WCG community in a timely manner. jhindo posted May 24, 2013: So rest assured, there will be more projects to come - in fact, we've already started the technical integration work for our next project. I've no technical knowledge and it may be that 4+ months of technical integration is normal. If that's the case then update the community on a regular basis on how it's going even if there's little or no progress to report. Again jhindo posted Jul 9, 2013: Yes, we are down to a few active project right now, but that's only a temporary situation. Three months on and the situation still persists. No one expects anything to happen overnight, but timely and informative updates, disseminated in the broadest possible way to the community will assuage the concerns of volunteers which give rise to the negative posts. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Oct 5, 2013 2:33:41 PM] |

hmmm, jhindo did post also:
----------------------------------------1) That a the next [cancer] project would be launched early fall. 2) A week or more ago, that there was a serious technical issue [code development], which held [cancer] up. Like to reading it all, just in case. [There is this very easy 'search posts on authors' function, so not to miss any that do carry cloud.]. knreed also posted 1 or 2 days ago that the wrong 'error' indicator [for server/user aborts] was going to be fixed with the next [unspecified] end project launch, which of course requires a website update edit: [add another info snippet that work is ongoing.] [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 5, 2013 2:53:20 PM] |

Sorry to have been misunderstood. It's probably due to my poor english....
1) I keep working "voluntarily" for "helping" projects", WCG and/or others.. 2) I've been doing this for 6 years and I intend to continue. 3) WCG has been very active in the past, with about ten projectsd running, so we had something you probably heard about : a choice. 4) nowadays, only 2 projects running and annoucements for others in "some time"... This mean ALL the crunchers (628247 this morning) work on these two projects and they might well be finished quickly... And what happens then ? 5) Anyway, I keep on chrunching these projects, but with only half of my computers time 6) I prefer, and it's my right, really active projects to half-sleeping ones as looks WCG nowadays. Conclusion : I'm not the bad guy, bad-tempered and ready to quit. But I felt that this forum was relatively democratic and I thought it was allowed to say that WCG may eventually have some defects. But maybe i'm wrong... |
