Likewise

baited breath awaiting - space watching

I want to know - the pwm on the ASUS must be better than spec'ed. I would inquire as to whether ASUS expect to support 100% load 100% of the time with a warranty .. with just a bios change.

It's when the tracks melt and fall off the board that you'll have to be careful biggrin

Not even the P4's could sink that many watts. And they were fan heaters.

We're right behind you, peering through the slits in our fingers hypnotized

We'll know when it's switched on as lights will dim across the nation.

I'll keep a check on here http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/ wink

Dave
Thanks Dave, that made me laugh! I'll be setting all case fans on Max before I start to push the monster to 100% I'll keep you all posted.

Delivery is listed as 1-3 working days, so may even be here by the weekend...

Re: AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition FX-9590

So, temptation and intrigue got the better of me! I’ve ordered one x AMD FX 9590 4.7Ghz base/5Ghz Turbo!

Here’s the plan, await with baited breath for the new CPU, when it arrives, the proposed system will be as follows:

MB – ASUS Crosshair V Formula Z (ASUS web page states only BOIS upgrade required)
CPU – AMD FX 9590
Memory – 32Gb Corsair Vengeance (1866)
GPU’s 2 x HD7970
OS Drive – SSD/M4 - 128Gb
CPU Cooler – Corsair H100
Case – Corsair Vengeance C90

This system will require some serious power, I hear you say! Yep, that is a Corsair AX1200i connected to the Corsair Link Commander so I can see exactly how much power this monster uses flat out!

Watch this space...

Edit - Correct GPU number

Let us know how it does. The price of that beast has been reduced to $399 from $899 here in my neck of the woods in Canada. I was tempted, but the power consumption is way off the scale. I did not have to deal with bated breath on this question.....

Re: AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition FX-9590

It's arrived! I'm all excited now, shame I will not have time to play until the weekend...

However, I'm going to run the machine that will be upgraded 24/7 to get some sort of PPD baseline from the current FX 8350 @ 4Ghz. that should give something to compare the new monster with...

Watch this space...

Once it's running, I'll post the following:
    Current PPD
    Current BOINC Benchmark
    Current CPU Rating
    Current power useage
    NEW PPD
    New BOINC Benchmark
NEW CPU Rating (max clock while still stable)
    New power useage
