Hi, sorry to post only stupid questions. Here is another one. I haven't heard of any cures to the illnesses that World Community Grid projects were attempting to find. So, why stop the projects? A cure is jet to be found for them. I searched and there are only two active projects and all the other ones are either finishe?? or intermittent.
Thank you, |

What happened to all the projects, they finished. If you visited the forums more often you would have seen all the announcements.

Ouch!
Scribe can be more acerbic than a pickled cat. When the research funding got sequestered, we lost HPF, which was ready to go on for part of a generation. HCC developed a GPU program which let it finish more than 2 years early. A number of programs that were nearing the end finished in a burst of speed as they got more computer time. The lack of research funds interfered with possible extended runs and caused scientists to rethink possible future projects. We still have a couple in the pipeline plus another cancer project from the same group that ran HCC in alpha testing. jhindo just commented on it this afternoon, reassuring members that there were only a few issues ( ![]() Lawrence |

Perhaps lawrencehardin has just let the cat out of the bag, so to speak... Not really. It has never been a secret that people are working on bringing new projects to WCG. But as we have just seen with the current alpha testing, things go wrong. I used to wonder if I had a high enough frustration index when I was programming. Guess I did, but at my relatively low level I never had to tell people that their plans just weren't good enough. One result of this cloying secrecy is that there is never even a hint in public of such an outcome.Lawrence |

There is probably the language barrier for me
----------------------------------------![]() I understood the sentence "There are several other projects in the pipeline, so rest assured that you will still be able to contribute to important research. " as there are some projects other than new cancer one in the pipeline. NI! ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Shrubbing@Home since January 5 2006 ![]() |
