How to remove a Device

I'm not as smart as most folks in WCG so I hope the condescending remarks will be minimal and that I can get an simple answer to a simple problem.

A while ago I donated an ancient laptop to a needy friend. It was all scrubbed and clean datawise but I left the WCG app running on it - so it could crank out some more results. The laptop has since been re-gifted a few times and I have no idea who has it now. It is not used very often but just enough to download new tasks which are never completed.

How can I shut it down / remove it from WCG?

Re: How to remove a Device

Hello JimWork,
As far as I know, only the current owner of the laptop can uninstall it or otherwise change it.

Re: How to remove a Device

What I would do is go to My Grid - Device Manager. Look up the device, connect it to a Profile that will only be used for this device. Then edit this profile and deselect all projects and Save.
The boinc manager will still be running on the laptop, but no work units will run on it.

Hope this helps.

Re: How to remove a Device

... were it not that at least 1 project has to be selected, one of the intermittent such as C4CW best choice, until it's declared complete. Also for that profile do deselect the 'opt in for new projects' and "if there is no work for..." ;D

Certainly a way would be to connect the device to a separate device profile [home/work/school], and set the allowed memory and / or disk space to a ludicrously low values. 25MB RAM use/idle and disk to 0.01GB [10MB]. Nothing will be send, at least by WCG :O

(whether this helps... it's a guess).

Thank you SNURK & Rob. That seems to have done the trick.
