@Admins,
----------------------------------------As you are probably aware, Rom Walton recently updated BOINC for Android to show a different device name for each phone/tablet. (BOINC 7.2.13) If I go to Results Status and filter by Device Name the new name is visible. However when I look in Device Manager it still just says "Android". Just a little something to add to your list of things to do since we all know that you're not too busy. ![]() ![]() |

Now if they add the account manager functionality (specifically BAM) I will have reason to switch from nativeBOINC. I like how smooth Berkeley's version feels over nativeBOINC, but it lacks in options still.

"However when I look in Device Manager it still just says "Android". "
----------------------------------------And there I thought to have read multiple times all Android devices were showing up with printing "localhost" in device manager [till that new version start proliferating to show a unique number]. Something must have changed then in the intermediate to get them to list as "Android". [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 28, 2013 2:08:19 PM] |

The latest from Rom Walton in response to another post:
----------------------------------------"The last part of the name is now randomly generated as you have discovered. Last night I noticed that the name is regenerated every time the client software restarts. The device I was using for debugging I can do longer use. I am in the process of charging up an older device with an older version of Android to see if I can figure out why the name is being regenerated after every restart. ----- Rom" The saga continues, stay tuned. ![]() |

Maybe u tuned out, but this IS the latest from the dev.log, which I'd think is the true latest applied:
----------------------------------------android: Add host name to the list of items we dump to the event log at startup.... commit | commitdiff | tree Rom Walton [Mon, 26 Aug 2013 17:12:39 +0000] android: Add host name to the list of items we dump to the event log at startup. It should help volunteers determine which device is which when matching it up to a project's website. 2 days ago android: Rename existing android devices which have the domain_name 'localhost'.... commit | commitdiff | tree Rom Walton [Mon, 26 Aug 2013 16:46:19 +0000] android: Rename existing android devices which have the domain_name 'localhost'. Parsing of the existing host info structure in the client_state.xml file happens before the detection routines are executed. Which client this is going to be in... pass. edit: Whatever it is, may not be the MAC code as I posted in other thread v.v. the localhost naming issue. Some objected to this being passed to the project and then being published [At other projects you can visit detail info on hosts and their results, which cannot be done at WCG], fearing this as an attack vector. David Anderson had a later insert:David Anderson
[Tue, 27 Aug 2013 19:13:18 +0000] client (Android): fix bug that cause wrong domain name to be shown. I moved get_host_info() after parse_state_file() in the init, since on Android we need to get the domain name from the state file before calling get_host_info(). Hopefully this won't cause other problems. |

The latest from Rom, about 1 1/2 hours ago:
----------------------------------------I've pushed out 7.2.14 to beta. This release fixes the renaming of the device with every restart and provides customized benchmark routines for VFP and Neon FPUs. ----- Rom ![]() |

How does one get BOINC 7.2.13 or ...14?
----------------------------------------I'd love to test them. ![]() |

Is this the same thing as the device name of localhost? I just noticed the name appears to have been changed from localhost to android_551a4a28 in Results Status and I didn't do anything to cause that to happen.

You must have upgraded to 7.2.15 which was just into Google Play yesterday. It will then rename localhost. |
