I did go to the advanced view for BOINC manager and I am seeing a title of World Community Grid - BOINC manager - (localhost) but the work displayed is not the same work that I see when I go to Results Status and choose localhost as the device name to filter the work being done. I also checked all of the other device names added, and there is nothing that relates the device to the localhost device name in the Results Status information. I am thinking there might be additional processing being done by one of the computers which was added by Patrick, but there is nothing to associate the device with a particular computer. I am still scratching my head. edit: One thing that did occur to me is Patrick did get a new cell phone, and he was showing me how he could access WCG and BOINC manager using the cell. Could it be this is what is being associated with localhost? If so, the question becomes what does he need to do to assign a specific device name to the cell? Dave, consider trying this: On the WCG website, select Device Manager from your My Grid page. on the top of the Device Manager page, change Installed/Registered Device: to "anytime" and With Result(s) Returned: to "in the last 14 days". That should get you a list of the device names for all of your machines, Patrick's i7 and duos and this "localhost" machine. If this accounts for all of your and Patrick's computers plus localhost, it's probably the phone.I think you should be able to confirm that by going to Results Status, selecting localhost for device name and In Process for Result Status. You should be able to compare that with the list of wu's running and waiting to run on the phone. If they are the same, the phone is localhost. As for changing the device name, that would be something you'd do in the OS on the phone however that is done (if it can be). |

Keith, I have accounted for all of the devices, including the phone. I just do not know what Patrick needs to do to set up the phone with a different device name. Perhaps the phone was never given a device name and localhost was used for the name. My only concern is what happens if we get two or more phones that do not have a device name -- will all the phones have the same name and the results be additive?

That should not be a problem as long as you connect to the world community grid using your DKT name

Guess what device name it was automatically given??? Yup... "localhost". It is listed under my devices on the website under the Device Manger page and everything. So, now I wonder what would happen were I to add it to another android device. I may give that a shot here shortly but first I need a nap. Long night and longer morning. Edit... Just a FYI: a Kindle is an Android tablet based device AT the moment, there is no way to change the device name on Android devices. I read in the Android forum that they may consider that in a future upgrade in Boinc.

Thanks Chris. It looks like we may want to follow the "Android Device Name" thread over there. At least as far as getting something other than "localhost", they seem to be beta testing changes to BOINC. Maybe once BOINC uses something unique on each Android device, we'll at least know what to set before installing BOINC.
