Morning Team
----------------------------------------![]() I'm not sure how or why, but my Internet has speeded up?, I was on x8, I'm now on x16??. I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't for me doing CEP as well as FA@H, the upload speed I used to get was just over 45Kbps and now I'm hitting 90+Kbps (which is useful... 1) Because the upload file have increase by over 18meg and therefore take far longer to upload.. 2) I can now browse the internet while uploading files, which I was incapable of doing before... albeit with some delay). I've not been told of an increase by my ISP and I'm not sure I want to phone them up and ask, just incase they want to charge me more for the privilage, just a little surprised is all ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Just had a 10 minuet powercut ![]() ![]() Edit: bad spelling ![]() When I first moved into the flat I'm currently in, power-reliability wasn't great, and I'd have blips quite regularly. That prompted me to pick up a half-decent UPS, and plug my gaming PC and fileserver and monitor into it. It won't prevent things powering off if I'm not there and the outage lasts longer than 20-30 minutes, but if I'm there, it's easily enough time to power my gaming PC off then switch the monitor over to the fileserver and switch that down. Worth looking into, if it's a regular occurrence down there... ![]() |

It's not the same model, and is a bit more expensive than mine, but this is a similar power-rating to mine (from memory):
----------------------------------------http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1500va-liebert-psa-(900w)-230v-ups In essence, it's a big box of batteries that trickle-charges through the mains, and provides constant power to any devices plugged into it. If your mains-feed is lost or drops, the batteries then kick in and keep power-output up until they run out or the mains-feed is restored. The more expensive versions (usually from APC or similar business-class manufacturers) come with inbuilt monitoring that can cleanly auto-shutdown connected devices if power is lost, to prevent data-loss or possibility of damage, but you will pay a *LOT* more for those kind of features. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Thargor at Oct 24, 2013 12:44:51 PM] |
