Sounds like a challenge! I'm looking into some socket 2011 V3/DDR4 based machines to replace some of my current ageing kit... I'm not sure the £600+ price tag for an 8 core 16 thread i7-5960X Extreme Edition competes with £75 for a 16 core Opteron 6272 in the bang for buck stakes Mamajuana and whilst the i7 will be marginally quicker, it also consumes an additional 30 watts of juice. My 64 core 6272 box at 100% is running at 94 watts per proc which is pretty reasonable I think.03/20/2015 - 0:041:18:44:28 - 130,587 - 219 ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by reduk at Mar 21, 2015 9:43:35 AM] |

Hi all, another update, seems that the motherboard is not powerful enough fot the 8 core I had purchased. So will have to get new case, PSU and a new motherboard.
I will need about a month to get funds to complete purchases. Will keep you informed as things come to pass. ![]() |

However, I have a case that has a 750W PSU in it, you're welcome to if you can collect or arrange courier... I will need about a month to get funds to complete purchases. Just a quick question from idle curiosity. I'm an ex-pat (retired and living in Bolivia), how many other 'Team UK' crunchers are living outside the UK?. Have you any interesting stories to tell? The time difference (-4h GMT) means that my stats update at 8:00 and 20:00 local time which allows me to ensure that all is uploaded in time. As my internet is via the mobile phone system (and slow and expensive) I have to turn on and log in for as short a time as possible. Bolivia, that's not where I would have instantly thought an ex-pat would be, usually the thought is France, Spain or USA. The only one I can think of living away from the UK (if the braincell is working) is Fosking in Germany. Would imagine that it's a bit different living out there to here in blighty. Slow and expensive mobile data for internet access, that must be a pain. Assuming that CEP is high on your crunching list due to file size to be uploaded. |
