I feel privileged to be in that list because, in the early days, I just let my meagre work lappie process whatever it was sent. I would have missed out on the AfricanClimate@Home badge if they hadn't decided to award a bronze for just one day (since it was a very short project). I only processed 3 results in 0:001:17:49:10.
Since then I greedily jump on the bandwagon of new projects (having tried to help with the beta), but with the PV jail and my still somewhat meagre resources it usually takes me a week or so to get that first badge. But I'm still here, still crunching, and still (completely unsuccessfully, I'm afraid) evangelising WCG; because I believe in what it does. |

Well the bew project is launched - Uncovering Genome Mysteries Some care to post how long their first WU takes to complete? Who will be the first (Mamaj) and second to claim the new Bronze badge? ![]() I've returned 67 WUs so far, giving me a total of 0:012:13:24:48 which averages at 4:15:00 per unit, my 8core i7 Desktop though is completing pretty consistantly at 3:30:00 whilst my 24core Dual5650 is between 4:45:00 and 5:50:00 Also, missed bronze badge at midday by just 1:10:35:12 has anybody else from UK got one yet?![]() |

Uncovering Genome Mysteries : 12,766 : 17 : 0:003:21:57:12
----------------------------------------My 8-thread i7-920 is averaging about 6 hours per UGM1 WU, the 24-thread dual-5650 looks to be estimating 6.5 hours per WU (when it eventually gets to them, that might drop), my 4-thread physical Xeon server is looking to estimate 10-12 hours per UGM1 WU, and my 8-thread VM (that only crunches outside of business-hours) estimates about 4.5 hours per UGM1 WU. Slow-going, really, especially since 2 of the above 4 machines haven't even started on UGM1 yet... EDIT: in fact, only the i7-920 has actually returned validated results, so far, and has 15 WUs in PV-jail. The physical Xeon server also has a solitary WU in PV-jail, awaiting validation. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Thargor at Oct 16, 2014 1:32:41 PM] |

Press F10 to save and exit (confirm this is the correct option before pressing enter!!!!! Note - Most motherboard's BIOS use F10 to 'save and exit' not ALL DO!!! Check before exiting. If in doubt use the exit list... This will restart your machine. Once all up and running, allow a short while for it to stablise and run Boinc Benchmark again. My 12 core dual 5650 has a Dhrystone Benchmark of 16551 - as a result tasks finish in 2.86-3.08 DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH BIOS SETTINGS!!!

It's not something I know much about but those of you with multi thread devices might want to check out Seeing lower than beta19 efficiencies which reports that running multiple UGM WUs at the same time results in a drop of 3-4 % in efficiency.
----------------------------------------If it's relevant please share your thoughts/experiences. |

I've just checked some of my other machines, the 5650 based machines that are running hyperthreading are indeed much slower than my one quoted above, this difference is significant, completing in around 5hours +/- a bit... If anyone wants examples let me know...

That would also back up what I'm seeing with my times, estimated or actual.
----------------------------------------The one server I have that doesn't involve hyperthreading (since it's a VM) estimates around 4.5 hours per WU, whereas the others with hyperthreading are estimating 6.0-6.5 hours per WU. ![]() |
