Beta Test

8:29:46 PM

BETA Test Alert

For the new UGM1 project!
Thread

As mentioned before, some of the work units may only take on average 30 minutes to complete. The first batch of them coming out are those of the shorter variety. The second batch will be longer and the third should be in the middle.

00007 has 30 minute average work units (yes some are a lot shorter)
00008 has 4 hour average work units
00009 has 1.5 hour average work units

BETA Test Alert

For the new UGM1 project!

Looks like my 8-core VM has picked up four of them, but my new 24-thread dedicated server is still having fun settling into doing a mixture of FA@H and MCM1, so it hasn't picked any up (yet).

It'll be nice to have something to crunch for (along with new badges), although with a 2-day cache, it'll take a while to switch over to a new project when it's finally officially launched - I don't like trying to prepare by getting rid of cache beforehand, just in case there are any unforeseen issues that mean a machine doing no work for a bit, I'd rather delay the start of my work on a new project

Re: Beta Test

Theres also a FA@H BETA test for Android devices

Figured its an easy way to get a couple days RT towards the Beta Badge, as most FA@H units last 12 hours or so, but return with about 8-9 hours RT (for me anyway) just picked up 6, still got 6 days to go for my bronze badge, but it'll hopefully close the gap considerably =D

Also hoping they can fix the problem on Android, the last 18 on my phone only 6 have returned valid, the other 12 have errored out, after checking the Results Page for two of my valid ones, they both have over half a dozen errors prior to completion which means its not just me that happens to, makes me wonder whether progressing BOINC into Mobile Devices is really worthwhile with so many errors?? my Kindle on the other hand, which is constantly plugged in on charge runs perfectly, not errored out in weeks, and returning 4/6 results a day, so I presume its the stop/start tendancy which causes issues on Android. Does anybody else use BOINC on Android Devices out of interest? =)

Re: Beta Test

Nabbed 3 of the new beta units. Suspend without LAIM is working fine so no major loss of crunch time and looking like a very regular checkpoint too.

Re: Beta Test

I hope that when the new project moves into production WUs continue to run < 4hrs each and are not batched together to form longer runnings WUs.

Short running WUs definitely have a place in the scheme of things. I can't believe that WCG would be unable to process a slightly higher throughput of results especially when you think of the throughput level achieved when GPU was at its peak.
