Morning everyone biggrin

Things are getting back to normal. The team returned 488.42 RTd yesterday which lifts the average for the 3 days Sun -Tue to 345.58. Just slightly less than we were achieving last week, so there's probably still some delayed results out there. Another day should see the remainder of the backlog cleared and my normal Updates should resume tomorrow. wink

There will be some manual adjustment to even out the effects of the system problems and eliminate the "false" records created. In the interests of fairness Personal Bests registered Sun-Wed will also be disregarded.

Re: In Other News

My remaining physical server has ported across to FA@H fine (I always leave the "If there is no work available for the project(s) I have selected above, please send me work from another project" option selected, just in case), so no loss of crunching-availability there...

I agree!

There's also no answer to my query about maximum width of the message box and other forum parameters so I'm glad to see you've removed the "Resolved" from the thread header. wink

MCM1

The temporary suspension of MCM1 was lifted around midnight. Initially only "resends" were distributed to "reliable" hosts which appears to have taken 2-3 hours. Then "new" work became available but with the feeder priority reduced to 1/10th of what it was previously to avoid a slew of large MCM1 WUs putting the system under pressure.

But IMO the reduced feeder priority is a somewhat flawed solution because it only works if a host's project mix includes FAAH. If, for example, there's a CEP2/MCM1 mix (as I have) the number of CEP2 WUs fetched is limited by the profile setting. So once that cap is reached BOINC will keep sending work_fetch requests for MCM1 until the cache is filled. In my case 2 or 3 MCM1 WUS were fetched with each request over several hours until the cache was filled with 6 CEP2 and 26 MCM1.

Re: MCM1

jonnieb-uk,

Your logic is sound, but it overlooks one thing -- there are an awful lot of volunteers out there whose systems are "set and forget". They will be running a mix of MCM1 and FAAH (since CEP2 is not runnable by default) and so will operate in the way the techs hope and expect.

We tend to forget that it is mostly only those of us who inhabit the forum that twiddle the knobs. I don't know what proportion of systems are at the default settings, but I suspect it is huge. As a proportion of the total volunteer run-time it may be less, but I still think it is a very significant number of systems.
