I wonder if we should split the BOINC Agent Support into two, Desktops and Smartphones, as at the moment they are mixed together and sometimes I cannot see the wood for the trees!

Would not call it Smartphone support, but guess you were not suggesting a name :D. Just something as the program is called "BOINC for Android Support" all inclusive of any device definition running Android, but then I've not seen anything hinting as other mobile devices being [future] targetted [The forum descriptive text could specify] similar to
For members to post questions and answers related to running research applications that use mobile... Maybe a front missed opportunity to give it the highlight it deserves[ with the mention of a billion portable devices running it, no less than for GPU Support... after all we read in one of the blurbs that IBM took the initiative in 2011 to go mobile ;?. |

Great idea. We have added the forum here -> https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/listthreads?forum=580
In fact I'll even move this thread there. FYI -> There are already 2640 Android devices that have successfully completed a result! |

I have a question that may be related to this thread. I recently got an Amazon Kindle and I am thinking it might be usable for WCG with BOINC support. I don't know if the hardware is sufficient for performing work at that level, but since the android is, I thought I would ask the question: can Kindle be used?

Why this entirely OT in this thread and not a new one, beats me, but a quick search of the forums, box right top, found a report of such a device being used by a member: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=427633

Will WCG run on a Windows phone or only Android?

Hello acpartsman,
If they ever port BOINC to Windows, then you can find out for yourself. Seriously, right now we are acting as if Android always runs on ARM code. In fact, there are some tablets running Android on x86. We are aware of this. I am avoiding guessing at any time table but we will deal with this - - unless the situation changes. Lawrence |
