Post originally on BOINC Forum. Sekerob asked me to move it here:
----------------------------------------*** Initial feedback. I had multiple computation errors on WCG and the phone heated up to the point where computation was suspended and I was getting worried. I uninstalled. *** On the BOINC forum Claggy had the following suggestion: "If possible place the device on a large piece of metal (like on top of a computer case), the heat will conduct away fast and the device will stay cool to the touch." The phone Galaxy S2 is in a case, which might be causing the heating problem, but it's not practical to take it in and out of the case all the time.

Thanks for the info about the Galaxy S2 phone. Were you running 1 thread or multiple threads?

David,
If you are worried about heating, there is an option in the advanced preferences to lower the suspend at temperature. This is a soft suspend and does not take the application out of memory while waiting to get below your ideal temperature. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Hi all
----------------------------------------Lawrence - multiple threads I think. Uplinger - yes I could, but if it's stopping all the time, how much processing is it really going to do? I wouldn't ordinarily leave it on the charger all the time either, and I won't let it compute when it's not. Cheers David

David,
Great questions, depending on your device, it probably needs 4 hours of computational time. Lets say you decrease the heat level to something more of your preference and it runs for 50% of the time. If you plug it in before going to bed and get 8 hours of sleep, you would in theory finish a work unit every night. Of course I do not know your sleeping habits or your thoughts on how long to keep on a charger, but a majority of the mobile device users plug their devices in and let them stay on the charger well past when it hits 100% full. This overage is what we are hoping to capture on a semi regular basis towards. Please note, that we do not want people to change their habits just to run WCG. The goal is to capture the excess processing power that you are not using. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Hmm, in 8 hours my desktop can do ~64 FAAH Vina units. Agree entirely that people should just keep on what they're doing and BOINC shouldn't interfere, but the pickup's not that great for me for 1 extra unit.

I have a Galaxy SIII and set 4 CORES, running at 100% when my battery is over 20% and i am pluged. Until now it is running really good and the heat is completely normal.
