Hello,
I am having problems with the wcgrid task. I also run seti@home, but don't have problems with it. I have my local configuration set to use 100% of my CPU's (2) and no more than 10% of CPU cycles, but wcgrid uses anywhere from 25% - slightly more than 50%. This causes my laptop to run very hot. Task Manager shows that wcgrid is using more CPU cycles than System Idle!! I have the latest BIONC download for Intel (7.0.64(x86), wxWigets Version 2.8.10) and am running on a ThinkPad T61p, with 4GB memory, a 2.40 GHz Core Duo Intel processor, 500GB hard drive, and Windows XP Professional with all the latest updates. Both fahv (~50% CPU usage) and faah (~25% CPU usage) are running. I have an 8-core AMD system running the same version of BOINC and when I set the CPU usage to 10%, wcgrid only uses 10%?? To 30% and no CPU uses more than 10%-12%!! I regularly clean the fan intakes with compressed air, when there is a heating issue, but this doesn't respond to that, since I'm running basically 100% CPU usage all the time. In fact, this problem just started in the last few days. Prior to this everything ran at the levels specified in the Configuration and the temperature was in the mid 50's C. Now it is in the high 70's C. Before I noticed this problem, I ran at 30% CPU usage in the Configuration and never observed this issue. Does anyone have an idea what is wrong or what I can do, other than just stop using BOINC on this machine until a future upgrade fixes the problem?  Any help would be appreciated!Phil |

Guess this the re-post from what you worte on the Berkeley forum. We really need to know the science(s), this is happening with, where I did mention that FAHV [FightAIDS@Home on Vina] is the current suspect.

Here is the info for the two (well actually three) processes:
wcgrid_fahv_vina_prod_32.exe.7.03. Running constantly at ~50% CPU usage... 67,092K Memory, Priority Low. wcgrid_fahv_vina_7.03_windows_intelx86 near 0% CPU usage... 2,424K Memory, Priority Low. wcgrid_faah_7.15_windows_intelx86, this process bounces around, from near 0% to ~35%, but its total CPU usage is near 0%... 85,584K Memory, Priority Low. Attentional update.: On the 8-core, 3.6 GHz AMD computer running 64 bit Windows 7 in 16 GB of Memory, the 64-bit versions of these apps only use the amount of CPU cycles allocated to them and don't "run away".
