As it says in the subject line - Just a suggestion!
----------------------------------------I would happily donate an amount to get it started and an anual 'running cost' amount it would not be much if all those with sig files donated too! It would be a shame to loose the sig, it has so much information and is fun monitoring the rate of climb and or fall... So SNURK if you wan to open a paypal account just for this, work out some costs etc. I'll start it of with £50 (50 GB Pounds!) Edit - Spelling typo!

Is it possible that I.B.M. may endorse and compensate "SNURK's" services (signature)? "SNURK" has done so much for so many I.B.M. crunchers.
----------------------------------------In my opinion, if enough of us write to I.B.M. about "SNURK's" signature and how so many of us crunchers want it back, then "SNURK" may get the "compensation" he deserves, and "SNURK's" signature may become a common part of I.B.M.'s world community grid. @Bob F - Yep, but would any compensation be required if IBM just hosted the site on their servers?

Compensation should be required because, I have to assume, that "SNURK", the creator of this fine signature, would be the one too maintain it (Assign crunchers to his signature, upgrades, etc.). "SNURK" has been doing that for quite a while now and he's done a brilliant job. "SNURK" did add many meaningful changes to his signature from time to time. So, even if I.B.M. used their servers, I.B.M. will still need someone to maintain "SNURK's" signature and I honestly feel, it should be "SNURK" and no one else and it does take a lot of work to do this properly. So, compensation would be a very reasonable demand.
In my opinion, "SNURK" earned this position and no one else. Do you feel the same as I do, that it should be "SNURK"? |

@Bob F - Yes, without a doubt! if the signature is to continue (it would be a shame to loose it!) it should be SNURK to maintain/administer it and from time to time improve it! So looking at it from a different angle, then yes, SNURK should definitely be compensated for the errort!

I agree in principal with this, but we shouldn't assume that Snurk would have the time to continue to do this. However from what I have read of his responses and the evidence of his diligence over the years, I have to agree that he IS the man for the job!
----------------------------------------I can't see why IBM would have a problem with backing the project because the sig does nothing but promote the work we have done and continue to do. If IBM backing were not to be forthcoming, then I would also be happy to make another donation on a more formalised subscription basis. @Mamajuanauk , you have kicked the ball off with a very generous offer which is impossible for me to match, but I would welcome Snurk's input on this with some costings for us to consider. It would be a great loss for the forums if the success of the sigs were to lead to their downfall.  Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. |

----------------------------------------EDIT: Some people are saying that IBM should be hosting it. Do realize that for it to work, SNURK would need to have his own FTP Account at IBM, which can be a problem. Reason being as he generates all the images on his own computer, then uploads them.
