I got an AT&T Unite to try out with the aim of replacing the WildBlue satellite dish. I have ten days left on the trial period. It is satisfactory and faster with everything I do, except it won't upload finished WCG work until I switch back to WildBlue. I can't find any controls that seem to affect the internet connection in WCG. Am I missing something simple or is there some technical reason this won't work? Most of the forum posts I look at are too technical for me. I'm not a geek, I just want it to work.

The only controls you have on internet usage is towards the bottom of your profile.
----------------------------------------Network Usage Confirm before connecting to Internet? Disconnect when done? Maximum upload rate: Kbytes/sec Maximum download rate: Kbytes/sec Transfer at most: Mbytes every days This setting allows members to choose the max transfer allowed over a multiple day period. It is enforced by version 6.10.46+ of the BOINC agent. Not knowing anything about AT&T you could try messing with those ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 1, 2013 4:57:18 AM] |

Please post the messages you have when you are unable to upload. They may shed some light on your problem.

WCG- BOINC Manager-Network Status ( popup box)
WCG couldn't do Internet communications, and no default connection is selected. Please connect to the internet, or select a default connection using Advanced/Options/Connections. (OK button) When go to the Connections screen, there are no connections listed there, or on the HTTP or Proxy tabs. As best I can recall, Wild Blue has always worked with WCG without any special setup. In Messages on BOINC Manger screen: BOINC can't access Internet - check network access or proxy configuration. Series of Temporarily failed upload and backing off 1 min messages. Not using a proxy message. I'm using an HP dual-core laptop with Vista and an HP quad-core with Windows 7. The fine print on a US Cellular hotspot brochure I have says: Plans can be used for intranet access, email access, and internet browsing. Plans cannot be used for any other purpose, including but not limited to: continuous file transfers, telemetry, automatic data feeds, webcam posts or broadcasts, automated functions, machine -to-machine applications or peer-to-peer file sharing, redirecting TV signals for viewing on PCs, or as a substitute for private lines, frame relay, or other dedicated connections. Perhaps the AT&T plan has similar restrictions. |

As the plan will not allow continuous file transfers, which is what results are, I suspect you will never be able to use in with WCG.

The US Cellular brochure was about all the info I had at the time. However, despite some reluctance from the Windows 7 computer at first doing Clean Energy work units, they are both now doing any work unit normally, using the AT&T hotspot connection. I don't know what I did, they just had to get acquainted first, I guess. Thanks for your help, guys.
