After the installation where I specifically turned off the FightAids and Leishmaniasis Projects I was surprised to see all 3 Projects Actively using my system resources on the Task page.
I only wanted to support the Clean Energy Project. How do I get these others to stop using my resources? |

Welcome to WCG.
One reason could be, you left the CEP2 setting at default 1 task 'in progress'. If your computer has more processor cores... a quad for instance, then the client tries to get work to also have these 'idle' processors get to crunch. Then the 'If there is no work for..." may be kicking in. Frankly, that's a guess. I cannot remember if such observations were reported before. Supposing you have a quad, desktop, you could increase to 2 CEP2 [50% of total processors], and see if that works too. The science is heavily taxing, so any higher number is trial and error to find if things continue to function. Whilst it would be a pity not using the other processors for other lighter work while you're at it, you could untick the "If there is not work for..." option, or reduce the % of processors in such a way that part of the CPU is used and no other sciences are pulled in. Let us know what you want to opt for. |

Thanks for the reply.
I did find that check mark to let others run if what you've selected is not fully utilizing the system. I do have an 8 core i7 2600 clocked at 3.4GHz with 16 GB of ram so there's lots of usage going on as I've allowed 100% utilization. I've verified that all 8 cores are maxed at 100%. My concern was one of too many units of work such that I'd hamper my needed work but so far no issues and I know I can always throttle back, if needed. |

That's great, and let us know if you need help setting more CEP2 and maximize that science contribution. An I7-2600 desktop could be easily 'tweaked', so that any number of that science always gets preferred runtime, and other sciences fill in the remaining cores. That can be done with the <max_concurrent> parm in a file to be created called app_config.xml and the v7.0.40+ client. Several topics in the CEP2 forum discuss this -new- feature. Got an I7-2670QM and had it run 8 CEP2, but then it became hands-off or the efficiency dropped and you started noticing BOINC was running during use. A good rule of thumb with power CPUs is about 50%, in your case 4 of 8.

@allenwissinger, have you checked section "My projects" on the left when opening "My grid" page? Maybe you have option "If there is no work available for the project(s) I have selected above, please send me work from another project." ticked?
----------------------------------------And please check "Device manager/Device profiles" too, maybe in yor profile this option is ticked as well. ![]() |

I've read the whole thread again and now I have no idea what's wrong, the situation that other projects are running or not.
----------------------------------------Anyway, looks like the issue is solved and another cruncher is a bit more happier :) ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by katoda at Jun 25, 2013 5:14:45 PM] |

If you make changes in My Grid > My Projects, you change -All- device profiles you have, so heed thé! [with exclamation mark ;>],

Indeed, but my first though was that allenwissinger had the option unticked in "My projects" and then somehow managed to go to device profiles and then tick the option again. In such case, "My projects" would rather show that everything is OK, but profiles will say something different.

allenwissinger is fine, we're just just offering to help out if he wants to do CEP2 to the max, without impairment.
