User Average Stat

I'm confused about the meaning of the left column of the User Average in the statistics. It tops out at 48. What do the numbers represent?

Please advise.

Re: User Average Stat

I am confused as what you are referring. Is this under your "My Grid" statistics, Project statistics, global statistics ???
Cheers

Re: User Average Stat

Hello scso4021,
It shows the BOINC points granted to a user on each day for the last month (about 30 days). The scale runs from the low to the high for that user.

OK, Mr. Hardin, I am know of what you speak, but where on WCG do I find it ? I know where it is at BOINCstats, but not here. I remain baffled.

Re: User Average Stat

Yo Scso,
First of all, one thing to bear in mind, if you are looking for correlation between WCG numbers and BOINC numbers is the "7" factor. WCG numbers are not "real", they are inflated by a factor of seven.

Also there are some vexing differences in terminology. In BOINCese user=WCG-account and host=WCG-device.
The host and user charts may be identical if the account has, and has always had, one device running under it at a time.

The numbers in the left column you were asking about are FLOPS (floating point operations), summarized at the mega level. So a typical commercially available PC host might have numbers in the 4000.00 - 5000.00 range, that is, 40 - 50 gigaflops. The first two digits left of the decimal, and the two decimal digits represent the summarized megaflops. So the next three digits to the left are gigaflops, the next three teraflops, etc ad nauseum.

You did not ask about the numbers on the "Projects" tab, but they are also FLOPS, but are totals and averages of all FLOPS your device(s) have turned since day 1. So a number in the "work done" column, say, 12345678.90 could be called 123.5 teraflops if you were dropping your brag in casual conversation.

You can verify my quasi-facts by dividing your total points in WCG taken as soon as possible after the midnight UTC results, divide by 700,000 et voila, a number very close to the BOINC work done figure.

Clear as mud?

Good luck!

I blew it. The division suggested in the last paragraph would be if you wished to summarize to teraflops. Just divide by 7 for comparison to the work done number.

Re: User Average Stat

OK it's in flops. That is as clear as mud but at least I know it's not hours of work. I change a few parameters so it could get more work done and I was attempting to determine which was best by the stats.

I can get a general idea now if I'm flopping in the right direction.

Thanks.

OK, I found it, under the statistics tab in BOINC manager. Now the question and discussion make sense. My "duh" moment.

Re: User Average Stat

When I select "Show User Average" on left and select WCG on right, I get my daily BOINC credits in RAC [Recent Average Credit], at least think it's still RAC. There's no attempt to represent FLOPS. For that you have to do the mental math. 100 Credit aka Cobblestones used to be 1 Gflop. Since credit new in March 2012 kicked off, that is 200 Credit equals 1 Gflop. That said, WCG has 'credit new' implemented, but it never got close to what SETI, the reference project, got out of it. We're like stuck on something around 125 = 1 Gflop. Why/How/What... a very big job that knreed will tackle when he has the resources and time [see his posts on the matter]

Credit basic reading: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Computation_credit

BTW, if you mouse-click on each white dot on the line graph you get the credit on right and the date at top. Mine says now 6230.66 for June 13, which is times 7, some 43,614 WCG points, close to the 44,444 for the day that I posted about in another thread [Did not plan for it ;>]. Short, my RAC is close to the last full day crunching.
