I have a i5 notebook(4 core). I have joined CAS@HOME project .When I set the options to use 100% processors and at most 10% cpu time. It keep my cpu running at 100%. There are 4 process which keep in using 25% cpu.
So is this a bug? ![]() |

Can someone please rename this forum to "WCG Boinc Agent Support"
not running CAS@home, but check that run based on preferances is checked, then check cas@home for info on their project settings, also cpu usage at 10% is 9 sec off 1 sec on at full |

Perhaps crunchers only get answers from WCG, other forums may be useless! We should be proud of that!

Agree Scribe, but maybe those users could at least support those that support them ;)

Well, this is the second 'WCG too' member in about 24 hours that comes here because they've got a WCG version of client and chensiming probably coming here because C4CW and CAS are related [the China link]... somehow 6.10.58 not doing the thing it's supposed to do could lead them here. :D
----------------------------------------Anyway, chensiming, if you want your client to run according preferences, the Activity menu in BOINC Manager of course also has to be set to "Run CPU based on preferences". There's a big 'but', which applies to all sciences when this functions: 10% CPU time means 9 seconds pausing, 1 second running full. It really has no value. A recommended setting is 50%, which means your BOINC will run 1 second, then pause 1 second, which is normally enough not to overheat a laptop. Of course, like desktop computers, laptops need occasional removal of collected dust. The easiest to do that is by getting a can of compressed air. Blow some through the vent/fan holes. Instructions can be found on the internet. edit: typos [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 9, 2013 6:54:25 AM] |

Hello chensiming,
If your CPU usage is 100%, then Task Manager should show 25% per task. This is what CAS is showing you. But you say that you set BOINC to only run 10%, which means 1 second of every 10 seconds. So something is overriding that setting. But why would you want to run less than 100%? Cheap laptops may have problems, but no desktop should. If you have a heating problem, consider reducing your threads to 3 or 2 or even 1 without constant cycling on and off, putting thermal stress on your chip. Lawrence |

I'm sure that Activity->run based on preferences is checked.

dear friends:
Because there are 4 cores of intel i5 cpu on my notebook. So I just want to use all 4 cores for computing at average 70% load. To set to use at most 10% cpu time is for test only, but nothing happend. So currently I have to set to use 50% of processors because 75% is too high. thank you. |
