sad No results in years

I set this up years ago and forgot about it. I have had 6 of 8 cpus running BOINC whenever my work PC is on. Usually 8 hours a day. My CPU gadgets shows those 6 cpus are used constantly. Yet today I checked my stats for the first time in 2 years, and though it has many projects going at varying completion percents, it says I've returned no results in 2 years. None. What the heck has it been doing on all those projects? I assume I have actually returned results, but due to some error, my profile isn't credited. Do I need to reregister?

Hi,

Does sound a bit odd. When you open the BOINC program in Advanced Mode, what does it show in the list of Tasks being processed?
I think the other useful thing that is often requested is to open your Messages tab and copy the open lines in to here.

Re: No results in years

Plz look in that same Advanced view in the Projects tab, what account shows against WCG. Searched elsewhere and found several peters, one going by the name bspeters, where edpeters stopped sending results somewhere in 2011. At any rate, most often it's because members have set up a second account, or if you are an IBM employee using an IBM machine, big daddy having taken over the crunching.

Have asked for a mod to the simple view interface of the coming new WCG client, so when WCG is selected, it shows the contribution -and- the account/member name. Presently can only see the credits [points divided by 7].

Re: No results in years

In WCG BOINC Manager, under Projects tab, the WCG project's account and team both show IBM. I don't recall changing it. But I might have. Time is the great memory eraser.

OTOH, the stoppage looks to be around the time I upgraded to Win7 using one of IBM's customized Win7 install DVD sets. Might that have done it?

If there is a way to verify everything is working correctly, I really don't care who gets credit. Yesterday, when I saw no results in 2 years, I hit the panic button. So under the current regime, if is there a way to verify that I am (and for the past 2 years have been) sending in good results?

If there is no way to verify whether I am getting results unless I get the credit for them, then can you tell me how I can do that? I checked Properties and it's read-only. Update seems to be just for reporting and getting tasks.

Thanks for your patience.

Re: No results in years

You could go back to being yourself. In Boinc Manager under the projects tab, detach/remove from WCG and then attach to project again as an existing user using YOUR username and password. From then on all work will be registered to you and you will be able to see your results.....

You only get the credit for the computers that crunch under your account. You can not see how the WUs are going for other accounts.
If you are using a works computer that is locked, you will not be able to change the account details.

Re: No results in years

Prospective CA's [fattest wink to the starter of another thread], are expected to know Help and other support tool information like their inside pocket... So, there is a "Why Am I Not Contributing", step by step Yes/No/How To, discussing the very checking of which account is associated to a client and changing that. As Patrick noted, only way to see if work continues to be valid is visiting the Result Status page, or simply visiting the client. If running on all cores and the message/event log does not have quota warnings, is running all cores full throttle, things are generally fine and be remain "Set and Forget".

Enjoy (if there's still a need)

BTW, I understand from the WCG techs that it's for various reasons encouraged, such as a sense of personal participation, to crunch under own account [but remain an IBM Team member, though there is no must]. And, yes it will have been that customized W7 disk that did this. If IBM detects a capable machine is not crunching, they even push the software on.

Re: No results in years

Hello edpeters,
It is more fun to compute on your own account by reinstalling, but if all you need is reassurance, bring up BOINC Manager, select the Statistics Tab and look at the 2 Show Host commands to see the total points contributed by your computer and the recent activity.

If you want to reinstall under your old login and email, this will put you back in your old account and team. I would start by selecting the Projects Tab then clicking on No New Tasks. The next day when every task was done, I would hit Update if there was still a report to be returned, then I would uninstall. Then install. Once you were sure that you were in your old account, use My Grid - Device Manager to set a new profile like Work, make it your default and make it a Maximum Output profile, then save it. Otherwise your computer will run on standard laptop settings, running 1 second on, 1 second off. remember that Projects show on your profile but are changed only on the Projects page. Also, once you have the Maximum Output settings, change to the Custom Profile and save again. This will allow you to choose individual settings and change them as you like.

For the moment, avoid the GPU settings since there are no GPU projects.

Lawrence

BOINC 'Simple View' screenshot guided tour how to get the user name registered for any attached project [can be different for each]:

1) Select the WCG project if not the only one attached
2) Click on Project Commands [the hover on that button brings up a balloon to tell you're about to call a menu of WCG commands]
3) Click on 'Properties'
4) New Properties window shows the user name contribution information.

Nota Bene: This is the v7 client sequence!

Crunch On.
