Re: Status update?

Latest WU received GFAM_x3NIE_loopsAmb2_PfMAP2K_w2WATs_0102900_0160 which puts us at the penultimate stage of Experiment 124 with Experiments 125 & 126 still to come to complete Target #20. Is there any indication of the size of Targets #21 & #22 which will be the last before GFAM takes a prolonged break? SekeRob's dashboard currently estimates 98 days remaining. Is this realistic?

Hi jonnieb-uk,

I just submitted the last batch for phase 1 of GFAM to the IBM World Community Grid team. The final batch # = 116485. After that batch (and all the ones before it) have finished crunching, the GFAM project will go on a long pause. But whenever we make a new discovery in the GFAM results and then publish a paper on it, I will post the news here and on the GFAM site, to keep you all informed about the progress that you helped us achieve.

I personally, really hope that it is, so that I've got a chance to reach my goal of Emerald (I'm on the brink of trading my Gold badge in for a Ruby coloured version).

I'll be much happier though, if/when HFCC recommences and/if a new project or two would start - as that'd take the pressure off the remaining projects a tad (which, of course, will only increase once HPF2 finishes...).

Re: Status update?

hmmm, processing 108695 now and 116485 the last. Looking at the batch sub numbers, there 250? 500? 1000? in a batch. We're validating 165,000 daily [7 day average], with an 'correction' margin of 25%, so net about 132K. Assuming 500 in a batch that would be 30 days remaining, else 60 days for 1000 PB. Track the batch progress received and you get a pretty good idea where this is going.

As the French say, Bonne Chance.

PS, had returned 97894 on May 1, which indicates 10801 batches done in 3 weeks which had 3.256 million validations in that period. IOW, 300 validations per batch, which suggests a batch originally has 250 in them. My math is wonky, particularly before coffee, but that suggest a very soon ending.

Thanks for the update.

Taking into account the sizes of Targets #21 & #22 it looks like the supply of "new" work will be be exhausted ~ 5 Jun.

Re: Status update?

hmmm. If GFAM is now going to go dry by early June, it looks like my quest for an emerald badge will fall quite a bit short. I figure I would need to run until late June to mid-July on GFAM to get there, but if updated end dates moved up from Mid-Aug to early next month, SOL for me. sad

It's looking more and more like a trend where the remaining projects are going from slow but steady crunching to quickly running out. Good for all the scientists in that they will get all the results they need for their research months or years earlier than expected, but at this pace I wonder if all the current projects will run dry before we get thru 2013.

It would be nice to get another new project (actually 2 or 3 more would be even better given all the crunching capacity out there), but I also wonder if the cut backs in US Govt funding will end up drying up everything on the basic research front. I know many have said call your members of Congress to stop these cuts, but the sad reality is the US is up to its neck in debt and still has an huge budget hole to fill, so things are likely to get worse on the budget cutting front before they get better....

Re: Status update?

Well, the shift from 90 days to 15 days sure was drastic, but unfortunately, unavoidable. I hope to still make it to emerald for this project, but it will be very tight. As discussed in other chats, there are still plenty projects to chase after and the techs have indicated that there are other new projects on the horizon. Something also to remember is that not all projects are sponsored in the US (France and Japan come to mind).

Re: Status update?

Pulling the plug on my GFAM crunching since I'm only about half way between Ruby and Emerald, and 14 days left isn't anywhere near enough for me to complete an Emerald badge. Them's the breaks.

Good luck to the rest of the crunchers finishing up you tight runs for that next GFAM badge. Moving on to FAAH and see if I can move from Ruby to Emerald in the next 100-120 days before it disappears too. I'm kind of running out of projects with more than 120 Days left in them to make any of these Ruby to Emerald badge runs.....hope those new projects pop up soon....
