Track a computer using WCG?

My computer has been stolen, and I'm wondering if there's a way to use the grid to track it, since I always leave it running in the background. I've contacted help about it, but I need to know soon. Anyone know if this is possible, and/or how to do it?

Re: Track a computer using WCG?

As a general tip, set BOINC Manager -not- to autoload, particularly on portable devices. This way the [casual] ripper will less likely discover, that the program is running and sending latest DNS/IP information of it's geographical whereabouts to the project servers.

Re: Track a computer using WCG?

This would be another good reason to run the WUProp project. Since it is NCI, it shouldn't hinder your system or the apps here at WCG and it uses the standard BOINC web pages where you can look at the Device info. There is a drop down box where you can see the last IP address of the system when it connected to the project last. I used to use that info for remote host software before convenient sources like Logmein was available. Since I work on a lot of friends/family/etc... PC's, it sure made it easier then explaining to them how to get the IP address. I mention using WUProp because that eliminates waiting for a reply to an email.

Re: Track a computer using WCG?

NCI = Non-CPU Iintense [At the lowest CPU priority]... only uses a fraction of a percent of one CPU thread. Regular projects like WCG are CI = CPU Intense, but still at the lowest CPU priority. User processes take precedence [almost always].
