Hi,
----------------------------------------In a multi-CPU, multi-core, GPU era, it doesn't make sense to have "two years" as the maximum badge. If the average PC over time is three cores (four-core is more common, but old computers hang around forever), that makes a sapphire badge attainable in (365 * 2) / 3, or ~8 months (~243 days). That's on a single PC. I know people have probably requested this before, but I would like to (again?) request more badges in the 4-10 year range. (My average CPU time is around 8 CPU days per calendar day, so for me, a ten-year badge would be roughly a year and a half on a single project.) ![]() |

Hi ashes999, you are quite right in saying that "I know people have probably requested this before" (in fact, far more times than I can remember), so I am really hopeful that the WCG techs have taken all these requests on board.
----------------------------------------Question - did you take part in the survey that they undertook earlier on this year? Hopefully you did, and hopefully, you made this request there - and thus, that's yet another nod towards this request being fulfilled. Thing is, as I'm sure you're already aware, it all comes down to priorities. WCG has a very limited number of staff attempting to keep everything running, as well as to launch new projects (the last "new" project - that is, discounting the GPU version of HCC), was started in April 2012 - that's well over a year ago. A new project (or two), would certainly liven this place up a lot, bringing back many crunchers who've reached and surpassed their goals (and certainly the currently highest official badge level of Sapphire). Finally, I see that you aren't displaying SNURK's signature badge - that, in itself, goes to recognise those who've surpassed the normal badge levels, in terms of displaying a "world colour" calculated out by the number of projects and total years contribution level. Perhaps this would go someway to highlight the valuable contribution you're making towards WCG. If so, I'm sure SNURK would be more than happy to include you in his script. ![]() |

Hi gb009761,
----------------------------------------I wasn't aware of the survey. Discounting the GPU project is pretty big, since it was a big one for WCG, but okay. I've requested a sig now. I guess the short answer is "it isn't going to happen anytime soon" for more badges. WCGSIG fills the gap quite nicely at the moment. ![]() |
