So is BOINC 7.0.64 officially approved for WCG or is it still "use at your own risk"? I'm currently running v6.10.58 without any problems.

From post earlier made in this thread:
Reading the GIT2 checkin's the WCG pack is still being tweaked... the version number could become higher... 7.0.66 or up. If it were 'approved' you'd see it on the download link up-top and on My Grid. |

I tried to upgrade from 7.0.28 to 7.0.64. 28 uninstalled, but .64 errors out at status "validating user groups used for Boinc for secure sandboxes" with "Failed to add user to the "boinc_admins" group (Administrator).
----------------------------------------When I try to "downgrade" to.6.10.58, I get the "boinc admin" error above Win 7 x64 [Edit 1 times, last edit by Cybed at May 4, 2013 11:21:04 AM] |

Don't know what else is needed, but found a log showing the HD4000 is seen since v7.0.40 [if the prerequisites are in place]:
12/8/2012 9:45:33 AM | | NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GT 650M (driver version 310.64, CUDA version 5.0, compute capability 3.0, 2048MB, 1982MB available, 641 GFLOPS peak) 12/8/2012 9:45:33 AM | | OpenCL: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GT 650M (driver version 310.64, device version OpenCL 1.1 CUDA, 2048MB, 1982MB available) 12/8/2012 9:45:33 AM | | OpenCL: ATI GPU 0: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (driver version 9.17.10.2867, device version OpenCL 1.1, 1624MB, 1624MB available) 12/8/2012 9:45:33 AM | | Version change (7.0.38 -> 7.0.40) Why an Intel is seen as an ATI... pass. And, however big-ticket this is shouted off the rooftops, I noted it's only the beginning and per their official Wiki updated through April 3, 2013 it says: Intel GPUs: Currently the Ivy Bridge is the only openCL capable Intel GPU, however future embedded GPUs may also support openCL. Unfortunately at this time, BOINC only looks for ATI and Nvidia GPUs specifically; therefore no other openCL capable devices will work for BOINC, including Intel. My guess is, you need drivers too.Only few projects actually employ the this on CPU GPU, saw Albert being mentioned. Think for prob resolution you best refer to the Berkeley support forum. Various other options were added to specify intel_gpu in the referred cc_config.xml manual. |

Question: For a 6.10.58 to 7.0.65 upgrade, can I just shut down BOINC, do the install and restart BOINC or do I want to let my queue run dry first and then install?

If you're not using any kind of app_info file you can just shut down BOINC but I don't recommend installing version 7 on top of 6. Uninstall version 6 first then install version 7. All your settings and tasks will be saved by default and you should be able to restart BOINC and pick up where you left off.

I'm waiting to upgrade the other machine until I have time to compare the two and get acquainted with the changes. One question, I thought that the BOINC install process normally uninstalled your current BOINC and then installed the new one. I used Windows to uninstall my current BOINC first and then ran the BOINC install. Yes, it's been a long time since I last upgraded BOINC levels but I'm wondering why the reason for manually uninstalling first (unless BOINC doesn't uninstall across versions). |
