I just found out that I haven't been reporting results for about a month from my single installation at work. My employer doesn't have a policy that forbids this type of computer usage, but they do have a Barracuda firewall/filter network appliance and apparently they subscribe to all categories of Barracuda's block lists.
----------------------------------------WorldCommunityGrid.org was recently placed in their "Advocacy/NGO" domain category. Their domain category search page is here: http://www.barracudacentral.org/lookups/domain-category They do have a process by which one can request removal from their list. I have run into other notable organizations, such as ieee dot org, that have been or are still blocked. I use a headless netbook at home as a SOCKS proxy (via ssh) for web browsing when I run into that silliness at work, so I was able to configure the BOINC client to do the same and my problem is solved. However, I thought you guys might want to know about it. edit: Actually, they have a page where people can suggest a proper category for a domain. I suggest anyone interested in this problem visit that page (below) and submit wcg's domain in the category "Science". http://www.barracudacentral.org/report/website-category [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 20, 2013 12:27:15 PM] |
