process got signal 11

I installed 32 bit Ubuntu 12.10 on a 16 GB USB. It’s a 64 bit architecture CPU. I couldn’t get the 32 bit version of Boinc to run on the 64 bit Ubuntu, which is why I installed 32 bit Ubuntu. I have 22 valid results and 11 errors all from Clean energy project II and Human Proteome folding II. My other box is a 32 bit architecture same OS with NO errors. Here is the error report.

Result Name: qq133_ 00153_ 18--
<core_client_version>6.10.58</core_client_version>

By the way this setup gives me very fast results. I may not go back to Windows.

Re: process got signal 11

The most common cause for that error is that BOINC got no response from the O/S because the O/S was really busy doing something else. The popular cure is to open up the device profile and set "Suspend work if GPU usage is above" to 35%. That is the way mine is set and I haven't received any signal 11 errors in a long time.

Sometimes the signal 11 error is caused by network issues. You can refer to this thread to see some of the things that have been tried to resolve those issues. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=277055 I used to get these errors when I was using Comcast broadband and Comcast would have problems with their DNS servers. Ubuntu would think that the connection was up but was unable to resolve addresses.

On a separate topic, there are ways to get BOINC to run on 64-bit Ubuntu. If you install BOINC from the Ubuntu software installer, it will install all of the prerequisite libraries and run fine. If you want to install BOINC using the Berkeley installer (download boinc_nn.nn.nn-pc-Linux-gnu.sh then execute the installer) there are some additional libraries that have to be installed for BOINC to run.

I always go out to the Berkeley BOINC website http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php and download a current version of 64-bit BOINC. (recommended)

To install the additional libraries, in a terminal session:
sudo apt-get install libwxgtk2.8-dev
sudo apt-get install libcurl4-openssl-dev
sudo apt-get install libxss-dev
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
sudo apt-get install freeglut3

BOINC should work fine on a 64-bit O/S after you get those libraries installed. If you have any trouble installing ia32-libs, it is being deprecated and replaced by gcc-4.7-multilib. Try to install that instead.

As a disclaimer, I don't know if all those libraries are required, but I do know that if you install all of them BOINC will run.

Hope all that helps,
CaptainJack

Re: process got signal 11

If you reboot it should start automatically. If not go to the menu, look under "System" and it should be listed.
Cheers

In the top left corner of the screen theres a button that will allow you to search for the stuff on your PC. Type boinc and add a desktop icon for it.
