In the summer of 1962 I was a Corporal in the Royal Signals serving at HQ Northag at Rheindahlen in Germany. My boss, WO1 (FoS) Ian Rose told me that we were getting a bunch of TA from 65th Regt. Royal Signals on their Summer Camp and I was to baby-sit them! They duly arrived and I found that I had to work with a certain Corporal Evans, who was an absolutely gorgeous redhead ! Before the end of their fortnight I had proposed and we were married within a year - June to be exact, and when they paid a return visit to Rheindahlen in summer '63 we had been married for a couple of months.

So I may not as yet have reached a 'golden' anniversary for crunching, but I have done far better and reached a Golden Wedding in June…………for this reason I will not be around in the middle of June as I will be off somewhere with my darling wife on a nice quiet holiday.

When I started to write this I noticed that my boss was a 'Rose' and realised that my youngest lad had married a girl also called 'Rose' (Natalie) but I am not aware of any relationship - just a coincidence.
