Re: BOINC and new <fetch_on_update> in soon to come 7.0.54 (with a Q-mark)

Last I saw (admittedly did not look too deeply) there were issues with doing a clean install on Win8 ... any better yet?

I had no problems putting 7.0.56 on Windows 8.

Was it a clean install or was BOINC already installed on the machine before you upgraded it to Win8 and then subsequently 7.0.56?

Clean install. Not an upgrade.

Re: BOINC and new <fetch_on_update> in soon to come 7.0.54 (with a Q-mark)

Saw that 7.0.57 ** is out with the minutest of tweaks... this could become the one, for Berkeley public release, but the copyright page is apparently showing 2012 instead of 2013.. LoL. The shortlist of available builds, where as always if you a link to a previous version, just change the minor digits.

boinc_7.0.57_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh
19-Mar-2013 16:47 3.1M
boinc_7.0.57_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh 19-Mar-2013 16:28 3.0M
wcg_boinc_7.0.57_windows_intelx86.exe 19-Mar-2013 14:17 9.0M
boinc_7.0.58_windows_x86_64.exe 19-Mar-2013 14:02 8.9M
boinc_7.0.58_windows_intelx86.exe 19-Mar-2013 14:00 8.0M

Asked the techs about the wazzup with 7.0.56 wcg build some days ago, but it must have escaped attention, so lets be forward and see if it falls over during install. Careful there, it's 32 bits, so if you have an older 64 bits, first uninstall and make sure to point the new one to the proper BOINC data directory ;>)

P.S. See no Android compile this time.

edit: Got a message that wcg 7.0.57 is not ready for the big works... various scenarios need testing, to include going from 6.10.58 to 7.0.xx and more security checking stuff so the corp people can be assured that they get the best of the best [MIB I], and they can have a Yes answer to "Is it Safe?" (to mass roll out)

edit2: .58 now also for various.

Re: BOINC and new <fetch_on_update> in soon to come 7.0.54 (with a Q-mark)

If anyone has .55/.56/57 running, particularly on Linux, but testing on Windows would be good too: Set

1) Untick "When computer is in use" (So BOINC pauses when mousing / keyboarding)
2) Set "Only after computer has been idle for" to 0.01 minutes, 0.1 minutes, 1.0 minutes and confirm that after these times computing resumes on GPU and or GPU. On my 7.0.56 Linux the client goes in permanent pause.

Re: BOINC and new <fetch_on_update> in soon to come 7.0.54 (with a Q-mark)

No takers. Plz do not complain, as you had your chance ;>)

There's a new build out for Windows 32/64 v 7.0.59 with another fetch fix and a correction to the discussed misidentification of the bit build in the About box... a 64 bit is expected to now show (x86_64) not (x86). Locutus passed the fix code which was adopted to work for all platforms... pretty neat.

Summary changes: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=6698#48374
Preliminary Change Log 7.0.58 --> 7.0.59:
MGR (Win): case-insensitive check for .exe ending of exclusive apps.
client: if <dont_check_file_sizes> is set in config, still check for errors (e.g. verify failures) at startup, and reset file if so. Otherwise we'll never recover from those errors.
MGR: Downloading images in notices using asynchronous WinInet (Windows Internet I/O) code finally seems to be working for all 3 of us who have tested it.
client: code cleanup. Some variable/function/constant names contained "debt" when they actually refer to REC. Change these names to use "rec".
client, work fetch: request # instances so that we have enough jobs to use project's share of instances.
Remove Beta/Alpha flag for Linux builds.
MGR: Revise how CPU Architecture is determined in the about dialog box per Gianfranco's recommendation.

We're getting close to a 'recommend' release if this one does not incur a showstopper in the next 14 days [the past term of a version in Beta]
