Re: Will the budget cuts draw more scientists to WCG and similar projects - should we be preparing?

I've heard that argument too and I honestly don't know how that works. However I do know that they had someone on CNN yesterday from the NIH who was both an administrator and researcher and he said that even his own research programs could get cut as a result of the sequester. So unless you think all of these people are lying, this is going to mean a lot of job cuts and a real hit to R&D especially in the public sector.

I really don't give a cr4p what anyone associated with the government says. They're going to echo the party rhetoric because it's their job and funding they may get hit and that's all they care about. You know how you can tell they're lying? Their lips are moving. The bottom line is this. At the current rate Oblameo will leave office with 20+ trillion in debt. There is no, 0, nada a chance that can ever be paid off and it's our children and grandchildren that will be left holding the bag.
Politicians throw the term trillion dollars around so much we've become numb to how much that really is. To get a idea of what just 1 trillion dollars looks like answer this math question. If you had 1 trillion dollars and you spent 10 million dollars everyday how long would it take you to spend 1 trillion dollars? (hint: it's more than 200 years) When you get the answer multiply that by 20 and that's how long it would take to pay back 20 trillion dollaras in debt @ 10 million per day. At the current rate it's only a matter of less than 10 years before it all collapses IMHO.

The reason for the deficit is are the tax cuts put into effect by Bubba Bush. If we repealed those and went back to the tax structure under Reagan, your child and grand children would be golden. Why don't the tea baggers ever talk about THAT?

Which the democrats also voted for.
Total BS

If we repealed those and went back to the tax structure under Reagan, your child and grand children would be golden.

What's sad is you actually believe that fairy tale.

Why don't the tea baggers ever talk about THAT?

No amount of raising taxes will pay off a 20 trillion dollar defecit. If you taxed everyone that makes over $250k @ 100% it wouldn't pay off 1 year of Oblameo debt. Oblameo has run up more debt than all other presidents before him combined in less than 5 years. Why don't the libitards talk about THAT?

There is more than enough blame to spread about the debt. It could not have happened without both the executive and legislative branches trying to pander to every lobbyist who comes their way. And complicit in this is Ben Bernanke, going where no Fed chairman has gone before. The way the debt will be paid off (probably not in my lifetime) is through inflation. Inflation benefits the debtor not the creditor and the biggest debtor on the face of the earth is the U.S.(us). There is a way to start curbing the debt and paying off, but it make all of us kick and scream. The government must cut the deficit each year to zero and pay more on the debt than just the interest. Until the politicians get that through their thick skulls we will wallow deeper into debt.
Cheers

True. It's about the power they've given themselves (and not about to give up).

And if it means some folks "need" to lose their job (cut the fat). So be it..
The Government Pays too much, has too many folks riding the clock..
I'd say for every 10 Government workers we could get by with <8 and at less pay.

I don't really enjoy discussing the politics although I do have my biases, but the people who are naive are the ones who think that every news outlet is part of some grand conspiracy - oh, except for the "righteous few" who happen to tell the "truth" *cough*yeahright*cough*

Look. Can we get the off topic posts split off to a "US Budget Discussion thread"? As for this thread, if you don't believe that there is any crisis or that if one does evolve that it is manufactured, then fine, don't participate. If projects develop from it or if existing projects are influenced, you can always move your rigs to ones that you don't object to.

How's that?

BINGO!!! We have a winner. We don't have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem and it's directly linked to the man sitting in the White House and his progressive minions.( Reed, Pelosi, Schumer, Durbin etc.)

Estimated revenue for 2013, 5.6 trillion
Estimated government budget for 2013, 3.8 trillion

With those numbers we should not be running deficits every year but we are. Why?

You obviously don't get it so we're done.

I don't know if anyone with the power to split off the offending posts will do so. It may be a moot point now that I have started the thread I had suggested. However I should at least post the crosslink .

President Obama has run up more debt than all other presidents before him combined in less than 5 years. Why don't the lib* talk about THAT?

We can talk about it. He was cleaning up Bush's mess.
