confused High to Low CPU

Hi Everyone, I am a new member to the world community Grid, and look forward to participating with much enthusiasm... biggrin

However, I seem to have a slight problem and would truly appreciate any help that may be offered. I was advised to change my CPU from it's original number of 100 to 70...The reason for this suggestion was that my computer would not over heat due to the WCG agent running in the back round .
I have changed the CPU from 100 to 70 , however, I received a message from my computer that my CPU is running low....Since I am not in any way computer savvy confused , I am hoping that someone will be able to advise me if this is the correct setting. And if it's not, what should the correct CPU be? I have an HP pavilion a752n, Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.80 GHz...Any help would be greatly appreciated biggrin

Re: High to Low CPU

Hello Sunny156,
The first thing is to find out just what temperature your CPU is running at. Look at the Useful Utilities thread at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490 and download Motherboard Monitor. Try running it on your computer. It should tell you how hot your computer really is, without any guessing.

Added: ThrottleWatch, listed as #4 on the Useful Utilities' list, will tell you if your computer is slowing down automatically because of heat build up. I do not know of anyone who has used this with the built-in throttling of the WCG Agent enabled.

So the first thing is to find the CPU temperature.

cool Re: High to Low CPU

Thank you! biggrin ...I have followed the instructions you gave, and downloaded both Motherboard Monitor 5, plus Throttle Watch. So far no bells or whistles are going off biggrin , so I assume that all is well...I hope confused

Re: High to Low CPU

Oh, on motherboard monitor, don't attempt to enable harddrive temperature scanning... it makes your computer unable to standby... (as in when it goes to standby, it is unresponsive to anything, and you have to hard boot it to return it to normal... trust me... that happened to me... luckily system restore fixed it... just a note of advice...) biggrin Other than that, have fun crunching! biggrin

Re: High to Low CPU

From what I've heard, intel starts to underclock when it hits 75-80... I am thinking it is safest if it's around 60... (I use an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ and it's running at 70 throttle and the temp is around 65)... 2 cents from me... smile
