For you "older Teams" here at WCG

First of all, I would like to congratulate all of you "older" Teams for making your "mark" here. It is huge!

However, I would like to add that some/many Teams from the Grid who have decided to come here, wants to contribute to this great cause.

At the Grid, we have seen a lot of "spammers" from here, causing some problems.

I say enough of the politics! Let us all crunch away to cure these terrible diseases.

Some of us have already joined here. Many more could/will follow.

Is this a "bad thing"?

I don't think so.

Enough of the diatribe. There will be "great Teams" coming here. And the crunching power of these new Teams *will* be awesome.

Get used to it.

Well said JC.

There seem to be some people here who think that this is just about the computers and not about the people. Rather an odd thought I feel?

Anyway, can we now put this all behind us and get on with crunching?

Re: For you "older Teams" here at WCG

Hi Johnny Cool,

I have not been reading the grid's forums so I cannot comment on the "spamming" issue.

However, I would like to say that if there are any people who wish to contribute spare cycles of their computer(s) (or their employers as long as they get permission), then it is up to them to decide to what cause they give these cycles.

If they wish to crunch at the grid or here or folding@home or climateprediction or distributed.net or any other place, then it is up to them. Whilst I think that friendly banter concerning the "rivalry" between the various crunching sites is a good thing as it allows people to know about other projects which they may not have been aware of, I also feel that if someone is "spamming" another site, this could have an adverse effect on the project they are "spamming" about.

The reason I say this is because I feel that there are some very loyal people on other projects and who have a huge contribution to make to any crunching project. However, if they are continually told that what they are doing is worthless/pointless then they may simply switch off of crunching altogether.

I have said in other threads that we could try to encourage people from the grid to come here but this was solely based on the fact that there appears to be an issue with getting good WUs from the grid at the moment. If someone wants to come here and even crunch one single WU, then that is help not to WCG but humanity in its entirety. If they then leave to go back to the grid when whatever problems thay have are resolved, this is also a help to the whole of humanity.

Can I just ask anyone who is "spamming" the grid or any other projects forums to be sensible. A single post saying what WCG is, what it is trying to achieve and inviting them over here (even just to the forums) to see us should be enough. Continual posting in the forums will probably just turn people off and give WCG a bad name.

Finally, I would like to give a warm welcome to all people that have joined us in the past few week, irrespective of how or why they came here. At the end of the day, you are all here to help us all.

Re: For you "older Teams" here at WCG

Can I add my agreement to the posts here. I am one who posts in both places - not all my Grid friends are here yet so I like to keep in touch with them. Bit of a word game addict too so would miss that side of Grid.org forum.

Your the second person to say that to me, Mousie, and I can only put it down to 'shyness'! (Yes - Honestly! Why do you think I spend a lot of time in the two forums?) I have started 2 threads recently and am slowly gaining in confidence. See my Hobbies thread.

No lack of encouragement from here!! biggrin
