Re: Task too late??!!?

It means that the tasks was due on the 18th at 13:53:13 hours, 10 days after assignment on the 8th at 10:57:23 hours. Apparently the server did not receive the result back before that and a copy was send to someone else's computer to process for the deficit. This other computer returned the result before your much delayed result, so yours is declared "too late".

The task k775... suggests an HPF2 job, but you have to tell us. With a computer that is on about 2 hours per day on average, any PC would be able to complete a HPF2 task in time, that is if you allow computing during use. If you don't [default setting], and the computer is only on during use then powered off, a task will not make much progress and you get this "too late".

We can help you with the settings to achieve timely completion if you like but will need some information such as what computing profile is assigned to the device.

Re: Task too late??!!?

Thanks for your response,

I wonder why my computer delivered the results so late, it's working from Monday to Friday 8 hours a day. It's not the ultimate computer, but enough to complete a couple of tasks each 2 days (Core 2 Duo), indeed I see tasks finishing each 2 days (more or less). Maybe it's my fault, I changed in the network use preference tab the field "connect each" to 3 days, also I changed the work buffer to 0,01. Probably I have misunderstood those fields ....

Anyway, I notice something strange, in my results status table it should appear more results sent from that machine, I installed BOINC in that machine 2 weeks ago (the world c. grid version), but I can see only 2 valid results and several other results with "no reply" status. If BOINC is not able to send the results due to some network problem, would it notify to me? I suppose that the server replies with an ACK when it receives a result, doesn't it? Could be a change in the rules of the proxy at my work place?

I'll check the log on monday to give you more feedback. Sorry for my English ....

Re: Task too late??!!?

Hi all,

Today I can see the following in my BOINC Manager:

23/01/2013 9:10:25 World Community Grid Finished upload of SN2S_ABG21809_0000261_0374_0_0

I have checked my result status table 20 minutes later (23/01/2013 9:34), and it shows the task "In Progress" status . Is that normal? Maybe it isn't updated inmediately (server receives too much results and there is some process in charge of updating the status)

Thxs.

Re: Task too late??!!?

Hello alderaan,
I find the TASKS view more useful than the MESSAGES view ordinarily. It ought to show Ready To Report for your SN2S work unit. Use the TASKS view to make sure that your Cache Settings are not drawing too many work units. Normally I use 0.1 days for my cache and 0.0 for additional cache unless I expect server trouble.

Yes, this is normal. It means your machine has uploaded the result, but has not reported the the unit yet. If you had looked in the tasks tab of BOINC manager you would have seen the task with a notation of "Ready to report." It is a two step process. First the results of the work unit (WU) are reported - that is the upload part - and then the actual WU is reported. There is usually, but not always, some delay between the two actions. Hope this helps.
Cheers
