I too run 10 GPU tasks concurrently. But I checked the main article directly on Totalgeekdom and his number was calculated with the initial WU versions that had one diffraction image. The present HCC WUs have two diffraction images and he claims 4200 WU per day for these ones which is perfectly plausible with two fast and OC'ed HD 7970. There you have it. Hypernova is much more on top of this stuff than I am. If I get the rigs up and running I tend to leave it at that. I'm not really doing a lot 'fine tuning' you might say. I'm a little surprised I'm that slovenly, that I'm getting such poor performance - but only a little. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I got permission from Jesse Ma at Gizmodo to feature his article for WCG on the sciencesprings blog.

Congrats and keep up with the good job. ![]() ![]() |

There is quite a bit of difference between stock performance and tuned performance, sufficient I would say for it to be worth your time and effort. Put another way: If I could show you a way to go from 800,000 to maybe over 1,000,000 ppd on your 7950 would you be interested? I recognise that the effect of slower cores could skew these numbers but if your GPU's are capable then adjusting volts and clocks (for this I would recommend Trixx) can give you significant gains ![]() |

Thanks Hypernove and OldChap.
----------------------------------------Catalyst has builtin oc'ing function but if you have a link to Trixx or other oc'ing guides/software, I'll certainly have a look. My problem right now is that the current OS install seems to be corrupt and I need to do a complete re-install. But since I have a half-built SR-2 I'm still working on, I should probably try to finish that first. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by twilyth at Jan 11, 2013 11:27:58 PM] |

https://www.sapphireselectclub.com/ssc/TriXX/TriXX.aspx is where to find Trixx. The reason I suggest it is not for its interface or info which are rather clunky but for the fact that it seems to offer higher limits than the other software out of the box.
----------------------------------------That is not to say that the same cannot be achieved with Afterburner but to do so one must change a couple of config files. This one does however have a lot going for it in that it provides more information on vrm temperatures etc. http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm When overclocking the first thing to think of is temperature, so you will want to fix the fan speed in the 50-60% range. Maximum volts for a 24/7 overclock probably falls in the 1200mv to 1250mv range on a 7950 but the temps and capability of the card may influence this. Is the 7970 the same??? pushing the power slider to full is normal either set your target less say 75 or just increase the clock by 25 and crunch a few. repeat a few iterations, all the time watching your results for invalids. if you start to get invalids then you either need to bump the volts up or drop the clock if you are at max volts. Memory plays no significant part for us. My current clocks on asus 7950 dc2t 1250 @1220mv (this one) http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=host&proj=bwcg&hostid=2198151 Contrary to what you might read on this page the two gpu's in that rig are 7950 and 5870. they run 16 wu's and 3 wu's each card (which keeps the completion times broadly similar) The purpose of 2 disparate cards is to increase the number of wu's in cache for days like today when the server is flaky. This setup seems to enhance output rather than detract. Happy to talk you through this process if you would like or if you get issues ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by OldChap at Jan 12, 2013 12:16:14 AM] |
