Hi AriZonaMoon*, This is indeed an inconsistency bug. [just created a test account with * at end from which I'm now replying] The set of permitted characters have indeed changed at some point to comply with BOINC WW rules and to deal with e.g. some real esoteric characters that would not properly code on this system [changing member name would require removing these for a successful save]. The admin will read this and pass it to the web-developer, I'm sure. SekeRob* = SekeRob... CA is the title! Hei Sekerob Aye.. Nice that you tried it, to see how it works.. and not works.. hehe I hope you are right - that it will be passed to a web-dev. I doubt it would take too much work to fix it. Several years is a long time to wait though. ;-)) |

Hi AriZonaMoon*, Just tested and posted to see this * behavior in member names and was notified of SekeRob* "Your post has been created successfully. Please do not submit again. This post will be moderated so please wait for the forum moderator to approve your post." Whenever the moderator gets to it you'll see my [serious] reply. I'm a forum spammer you know ;D So am I, Sir.. They just have not figured it out yet. (*** Spammer-Coconut***) |

Hei BladeD :)
aye.. I can at least say for sure that this is Not a limitation of BOINC or BOINC Manager - Its entirely a problem in WCG only. And since WCG is a part of BOINC as such, it should keep the coding so that it fits the rest of the system. Its messed up logic to not fit into the system one want to be a part of. ;) Also, in any user account page in any BOINC project you find links to the users other project accounts.. just not WCG - That has also been like this for years now, and should be easy to fix. I am still waiting for it to happen. ![]() |

...having had my last comment on this subject deleted (censored?)(what ever happened to free speech?) I still want to express my opinion - who gives a d**n about what the rest of BOINC is doing? WCG was here before Boinc and WCG is all that matters. The softies should concentrate on the science and crunching and not worry about something as insignificant as an *.

@ AriZonaMoon,
----------------------------------------There's lots of things that on the surface seem easy to fix, but surely some are not at all. At times I feel though there's a Mexican stand-off on some items such as with that summary page that all projects have and allow you to jump around to all the projects with the same project member CPID. All are hyperlinked to the summary page of all contributed to projects, except WCG, but since WCG does not maintain such a page with RAC and devices, there's nothing to jump to, unless some loathed exception hardcoding is entered to e.g. pop out the Member Comparison summary, after which there's no going anywhere but the reverse button in the browser (I use mouse gestures for that). Frankly, seen one of those all project contribution summaries, seen them all. Maybe something changes in 2013. From a post by knreed on the public side we know they're working an an extensive useability study, to include total makeover of the device profile presentation and functionality... it tells me WCG does not think the BOINC front system is good enough, not robust enough either... hey, WCG is the only one using https/port 443 for secure connection. WCG has the highest member retention of all BOINC projects for one measure, like 2 times, so who's doing a better job? edit: insert address... another post came in-between while typing. @ Scribe : bye bye.
----------------------------------------@ Rob: I am aware of that WCG was a project of itself before - for some strange reason - they Entered into BOINC. Not your fault. Not my fault. ;) This is neither a question about "who is best" - Why should it be? Its about how it works together - and how it doesnt. For me, who is moving a lot around from project to project for reasons according to our team, the active links make it much easier for me. And why should I be the only one in this situation? ;-) Well, if I am, then so be it. I would still ask for the possibility to get that link going to my account page in WCG. And sure.. there are "other things" the devs should think about - but honestly.. if a * makes such a mess for WCG, and is so difficult to handle, then I should be banned solely for my signature use of it. Thats ok btw. What i have a problem understanding is; why cant the questions here just be accepted as being a real issue - and taken up as that - instead of people getting annoyed at those of us who asks? ;-) "Let`s do the "close eyes and use any denfence possible" to make those *-guys look ridiculous-game." ;-)) Well.. thanx for saying Something at least. ;-D We`ll see what 2013 may bring. Happy New Year! AriZonaMoon* [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 8, 2013 8:18:17 PM] |
