I have an older computer (circa 2009) that I use as a local network file store and it is running Ubuntu 12.04 with BOINC with World Community Grid. I rarely have to check up on this computer but over the last week logged into it a few times for regular maintenance like updating software packages (I have not upgraded to 12.10). When I log in I checked BOINC and I noticed a couple processes had the status "Computational Error". I know at least one of the projects was a Clean Energy Project.
I realize this isn't the best description of the problem, but I'm trying to figure out how much work I should put into tracking down the errors. I looked at the event log and there really isn't much useful information. These processes ran for about 30 minutes, then were finished, and then some output files could not be located. Is this a normal result? Do the project maintainers look at these results and fix bugs in their programs? How would I go about looking for more information on what is causing these errors? Otherwise this has been a very stable computer and has successfully completed many processes for World Community Grid. |

AggieBill,
If you encounter a computational error, please post the stderr from the work units you see in the result status page. Also, check to see if other computers are having the same issue as you. As for seeing it on CEP2. It could have been something in the work unit or when your system went to do a benchmark the work unit did not shutdown/restart properly. Also, some computers have issues with running specific projects and if you notice it consistantly on CEP2 you may need to deselect it from your "My Projects" page. Please let us know if you see another one and we'll try to see what's happening. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Uplinger,
Where do I find the stderr from the process (what would the filename look like?) and where should I post it to? I would be more than happy to do that. Thanks, AggieBill |

Hello AggieBill04,
----------------------------------------https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...ead,16342_offset,0#128396 Look at stderrdae.txt in \ProgramData\BOINC. Lawrence Added: Ubuntu, not Windows . . . . search for Linux directory structure. Sorry that I don't use Linux. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 29, 2012 4:00:28 AM] |
